Hi
I'm trying to teach English in Korea over the summer
but when I searched for teaching jobs, the ones I found all required BA's.
Are BA's MANDATORY?
Is there a way I can get a teachingjob? I'm only a freshman in college so I don't have a degree yet.
Please help!
edit: please don't post if you're going to post stupid, irrelevant comments -_-

It's the law. I'm sure some hakwons would love to have you, but to get a Visa, have to have a degree.
I knew guys years ago that photocopied degrees with changed names, but the Korean Govt picked up on it.
If you are married to a Korean, you wouldn't need one. |

you could teach illegally on a tourist visa, but be advised that your boss will know you're illegal and paying you what he owes will not be a top priority for him. |

An undergraduate university degree is mandatory for teaching English in Korea unless you have a different visa type, e.g. are married to or are descended from a Korean.
There are other places you can teach though; I know someone teaching English to Korean children in the Phillipines this summer, and he's a student. The pay is terrible, but life there is cheap and he gets good work and life experience.
I believe China is another option, but I can't be sure. |

No, it's not, or won't be.
Look up the newly proposed "TALK" program.
You only make 1.5, but you only need 2 years of uni! |

for those of you who said you dont need a degree, where can you look for jobs that don't require a degree?
because all the ones i found say that a bachelor's is required |

Unless you know the hakwon director personally, or can have someone hook you up, it'll be very difficult to get a teaching job in Korea without a degree.
Personally speaking, I actually taught in Korea when I only finished my 2nd year in University. But I was only a part-timer, and they gave me minuscule hours, only 2 hours a day. For the duration of a month I only made $800, a mere pittance. But the experience was good, and I'll be going back to Korea this summer, with a degree, of course. When I was in Korea the first time, I didn't even think about getting a job, but my cousin told the director about me, and he hired me before he even saw me. So yup, it was just pure luck.
You could try searching, but I really think it'll be difficult. |

I'm not really sure why you are asking for help...what, in completing your degree. |

Unless you are married to a Korean or have Korean blood in you, or qualify for the TALK program (you need to have finished 2 years of university) it is illegal to teach English in Korea without a degree. Period. Do not pass Go do not collect $200.
Now you can teach illegally..but bear in mind that the type of employer who would hire an illegal is also the type to cheat said illegal on wages. Not only that, but if you get caught you will likely have to pay a fine and get deported. If you can not pay the fine, you could end up sitting in a Korean jail for a good long while. And you may never be able to come back to Korea again. |

no i don't want either of those.
my parents are paying for the ticket and i don't need to make A LOT.
even $800 is fine.
i just want to make extra cash while staying in korea because i don't want to be flat out broke during my stay there.
and theurbanmyth, i am full korean. |
