This is not a joke, if you think it is whatever. I expect some people would find nothing better to do with their time than to make light of something like this. You can *beep* off I really don't care.

On my left foot I have picked up some kind of fungus/virus that is actually eating away at the skin/flesh. I have been to many different doctors in Seoul about this and they are either scared of me and don't know what to do, or they tell me that it will be okay and that to just put a band aid on it and it will "go away" and that I should not "worry." It has eaten away at half of my toe nail and it is taking away more

I think I picked this up running a lot, in excess, and developed some type of athletes foot and walked barefoot somewhere within the past year, picking up some kind of infection along the way. It is really bad at this point and thanks to the genius ineptitude of many doctors here, it has gone too long and is now becoming quite a problem. I have been to Pi Bo Kwa after Pi Bo Kwa and been turned away for being a foreigner or not having a need for plastic surgery, or they simply didn't "have the time." I have been to Yonsei University Hospital. They acknowledged that it is a problem, a severe problem, but all they do is blast it with liquid nitrogen, cut off part of the infection (dead skin/flesh) and tell me to come back every two weeks, which isn't really helping, just causing more pain, more hassle, it is becoming more and more painful to walk, plus with the oncoming summer, the heat and sweat in my shoes is definitely NOT helping, so wearing sandals all the time is A. not attractive and B. exposing my feet to further infection as the ground in Seoul is quite dirty.

Last night I woke up in the middle of the night with an intense burning sensation in my last two toes. They do not look good. I am really afraid that if this goes untreated or mistreated, the outcome might have to be amputation. I really do not want that to happen. Someone please help me here. The doctors I have seen do not know what they are doing. Where is a reliable physician who knows what the *beep* they are doing when you really need one?

Wow, sounds pretty bad. Can you post a pic?

Seriously, if I had been to as many hospitals/doctors as you've mentioned...I'd be on the next plane home to save my foot.

You got athletes foot.. Quite common in Korea.. Go to a pharmacy ask for Lamsil (cream).. (Ramishil)

I suggest staying away from saunas for a bit or bring your own sandals also head to a big store and pick up a nice bar of antibacterial soap..

Change your shoes or get dr.scholes antibacterial foot powder.. Wear socks. The toe socks are actually pretty damn good for this.

Wash your feet often and soak them in Hot Salty water.. then scrub the shit out of them with the soap.. Make sure you DRY your feet very well then apply lamisil.

I picked up Athletes foot more then once becuase I kickbox, but my feet are presitne compared to some of the crap Koreans have on theirs.

That sucks, to say the least. Cold you tell your boss that if he can't help you find a suitable physician that you will have to return home to your country for proper treatment? It might impress upon him/her the urgency of the situation and increase your chances of getting good results.

Hopefully someone here some other/better ideas, as well.

Go to a major hospital.

Did you go to the international clinic at Yonsei or the regular hospital itself?

Funny. My dad is a doctor. I skyped him up, put my foot up to the camera and he thinks I shouldn't have any problem finding a good doctor out here, especially in Seoul. I might just be on the next plane out if things don't improve. I don't want to go back to the States though. No Health Insurance. I will get raped in med care costs.

IF your dad is a doc how in the hell did you let this condition progress to this dire stage?

International Clinic. All they do is blast it with liquid nitrogen but it's not working. Also, there are loads of impatient hyperchondriacs there who jump in front of me, even if I am there first, and the doctor gives them priority, then soon enough, it's 12:30, I am the last one there, they don't want to deal with the foreigner, they want to get out of there, so the treatment is half assed. I need to have it anesthetized, and then it needs to be surgicaly dealt with. I don't want to sound like a know it all, but I know what I am talking about, I come from a family with a medical background.

He told me to see another doctor if it gets worse, which is exactly what I have been doing. Every doctor I have seen doesn't want to deal with it and send me elsewhere or they just say "don't worry" and they put a band aid on it and tell me to pay their secretary.

I know the fungus your talking about.

My wife (Korean) looked to be loosing half of the top of her thumb and nail.
Constantly wet hands washing baby stuff.

She just went to the doctor at our nearby shopping mall. He prescribed some strong medication. Taken twice a day for 1 week, and repeated 3 weeks later and again in another 3 weeks.

I will ask her the name of the medication prescribed to her.

She has now been restored, but you have to take the pills at near 12 hour intervals every day with a meal.

Please do. If I can't find anything, I'm out of here. I've never had this problem before coming to Korea. Run a lot back home, NEVER had this condition before coming here.

If you're desperate got to this place in Hongdae.
http://wiki.galbijim.com/Teng_Teng_Skin_Clinic
Personally I don't recommend him as he is a total tool, who charges a KRW10,000 consultancy fee for no good reason. And litters his clinic with full size photographic portraits of himself despite being an ugly bastard. On the flip side he is a gyopo so no problems with the Englishee.

Maybe around noon, should be able to give you the name.

My wife was breastfeeding at the time, so she couldn't take strong meds. She waited for many weeks and boy did it looked gross.
Don't worry about it, I have seen some pretty disfigured nails here. Hands and feet get it, but once treatment starts everything grows back to normal.

My wife was worried about passing on her fungus finger to our baby.
I was worried about catching fungus willie.
