Wow, someone actually beat me to Tonight's the Night. An obscure record, to be sure, and one that was almost not released because his label hated it.

Not sure if you'll like it or not as it's very raw and live-sounding -- I mean, the Smiths it's not. But very raw, real emotion and some amazing songs including the aforementioned "Albuquerque".

NY's noisier stuff (Like "Live Rust") is probably what got him named the "godfather of grunge" due to his love of feedback and muddy guitar tones, but his country-tinged acoustic stuff has always been what I preferred.

I am a big fan of Neil Young and have seen him live in concert three times.

He has experimented with a number of different styles and never seemed to follow any current trends. He spent a lof of the 80s trying all sorts of things, nothing of which sold, though he made a blip with Jazz and Big band with This Notes for You.

His bread and butter has always been straight ahead rock-n-roll. He can be opinionated and a little psychadelic at times.

My advice is enjoy Cortez the Killer, an awesome tune! Also, listen to his live albums, they are much better than his studio albums. He really doesn't have many great albums - Harvest (probably not your cup of tea) and Harvest Moon (probably also not your cup of tea) and Rust Never Sleeps.

One more thing: I have to disagree with Neil sounding like Pink Floyd. The Pink Floyd are very progressive and while Neil Young has gone there somewhat, most of what he does is folk and rock. He is more Bob Dylan than Pink Floyd.

I've stopped enjoying his tunes (accept for Cortez) and they all sound pretty much the damn same and not only that but pretty familliar musically to a lot of Pink Flloyd jams too (time for example.)

Neil Young & Crazy Horse...was a great live show, I saw them ~20 years ago

Ok, I've got one that'll help you redeem yrself. Take a listen to Thrasher.

Liking Neil Young is not optional. It's like saying that you dislike chocolate; it's meaningless. Just a question whether you ardent or very ardent. I grew up with him and the thought never occured to me and I can't get my head around the very idea. It's like wondering if you like day and night.
