I'll be spending a couple of days each in Taipei and Perak State in Malaysia next week. Could anyone offer some recommendations on must-see sights or must-eat food? TIA.

Char siew bau (like bbq roast pork mandu)
Satay with tonnes of peanut sauce
Lak-sa (spicy creamy soup)
Char quey tweo (a fried noodle dish with c o c k l e s) its a *beep* word Laughing
Roti Chanai (really delicious Indian bread with curry)

hmm... there are so many delicious malaysian dishes...

Peking duck (beijing kao rou) in Taiwan is good.

Look for the 'little dragon dumplings' (xiao long bao).

things to see...in couple of days..

Anna and the King Movie location set - outskirt of Ipoh.
Nam Tiang Tong/Sam Boh Tong/Perak Tong - Chinese Temples in the Natural Caves.

if you have spare times..head to Setiawan/Pangkor island - i think 1.5 hour bus trip from Ipoh.

food...gosh it's plenty to sample.
apart from those mentioned earlier..

1.try the Ipoh White Coffee at the Old Town (ask local - everyone knows!)
2.Bean Sprout Chicken (shop's name song like Loh Wong in New Town)- the bosses deliver chickens with their Volvo!

3. "Chee Cheong Fun" - Chinese-Malaysian style fresh-stemed noodle serve with delicious source or curry. (different from HongKong Stlye)

4. "ABC or Ais Batu Campur" - Malaysian version of ice cream mixed with peanuts/milk/coconut juice/agar/ mmmmm...yummy!
