Polly's! You know you've had too much to drink when you end up there. "We should have skipped the kettles and gone home." Standard morning-after disclaimer.

Never actually had a kettle from Polly's, but it always seems to be a place that we end up in on a big drinking night (don't get too many of them now Crying or Very sad ) in Itaewon.
I wonder whether it's actually a starting venue of choice for folk on a night out? Shocked

I used to go to Gecko's a lot with my friends.

I always found it to be fake.

I generally avoided Itaewon on weekends as it was just too packed, even by Korean standards. I personally found Gecko's a slimepit since a lot of prostitutes look for johns there, including this one woman who must've been 40ish and disgusting looking.

That said, on weeknights, I'd go to Nashville or Three Alley and sit at the bar, but I'd say my favorite place was Phillies in Haebangchon. I got to meet a lot of nice and friendly people there. I do miss that place.

I think it's time another area rivals Hongdae for afterhours partying. Any ideas?

I think everyone wants the rival to Hongdae to be Apkujeong, but whenever I go there, I end up taking a taxi to Hongdae around midnight. In my experience, even when there is a nice big event in Apkujeong, is dies around midnight or one am.

I think when the army move out of Yongsan, Itaewon will be an unrivalled entertainment district, it'll be so groovy there I think. The soliders make it a bit sketchy, most of the whorehouses will move away, and Geckos and Seoul Pub type places will become nicer joints to frequent. It'll attract more charming people. The only thing I'll miss is Calientes at Nashville, which is mostly frequented by Latino GI's, cool place.

Anyway, the naffest, stinkiest joint in Korea right now is Seoul pub. It's a sesspit.

Exactly, I've been thinking this for a long time as well. Kangnam as well. Everytime I look for some alternative place in one of these other 'hotspots' I'm bored out of my mind within a few hours and off to the significantly better haunts of Itaewon or HongDae.

I just can't figure out why anyone would enjoy trying to pull a night-out in Kangnam or Apkujeong.

Anyone out there who swears by those places and made it their place of choice..

Well the venues in Apkujeong are really plush, nice music and all and a feeling of a real event. But they just peak too early. It's funny because it's always hard to get a taxi there around midnight, and the streets echo to the sound of people shouting 'Itaewon yo' and 'Hongdae yo' to the taxi drivers. I guess its because all those good Gangnam girls got to go home early, leaving the boys looking for someone to play with. Honngggdaeee.

The whole area of Kangnam is way over-rated as well, but not by foreigners, by Koreans!!

It doesn't take a bunch of foreigners in Kangnam too long before they realise everywhere is overpriced and not really very good.

On the other hand, Koreans seem to really enjoy just being somewhere expensive. They don't seem to care that they can get more for less elsewhere.

Why do so few Korean clubs have live music?

I liked the Big Electric Cat near 3 Alleys for blues, but I think it's the only bar I've been to in Seoul that has live music on a regular basis.
