Yeah it went fine until they said the USA was to blame for splitting the country in two, and that there weren't any other factors to consider other than us being greedy. |
I got told this last week as well. That the USA is to blame for splitting Korea. Are the Koreans taught this in school? The fact that most Koreans see America as the enemy rather than North Korea is un-fucking-real. Unfortunately this is not only the older generation. The person i was talking to was in her early 30s.
I'm getting mighty sick of all the shit that is blamed on America these days.
I would also like to point out I am not American. |

Textbooks here are left leaning, the teachers union has always been pro North Korea. Stands to reason that if they're going to paint North Korea in a good light...well where does that put her enemies heh. Also remember that South Korea still thinks of North Korea as their country. Lot easier to blame a foreign power over your own country. |

Do you know that would happen? If the North Koreans are blamed, then it is shameful for Koreans, and it can't be the fault of Koreans, only foreigners. It is like the idea of not wanting to admit that so many Koreans collaborated and cooperated with the Japanese like Park Chung-Hee. A survey showed that 34% of Korean officer cadets viewed America as their enemy and 33% viewed North Korea as their enemy.
Of course, it means 66% don't think that way, but the fact that 34% think of their ally that way is not a healthy sign. One would understand such a figure in a Middle Eastern country, not in Korea. I doubt we would get those figures in Japan. The Chinese are to blame for splitting Korea, not America. America did its best. |

This isn't just a Korean phenomenon though. In Scotland there are many people who are resentful of the English. The Acts of Union was signed and agreed by both Scottish and English parliaments. However rather than accept the faults and errors of our own countrymen we often blame the other person.
I guess this is what Korea is going through.
Koreans should seek the truth though. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." |

WHO KNOWS what these kids are being taught in their History classes. Their teachers are seemingly oblivious to world history.
Point is these people are bitter, either because their education system, stagnate job, high maintenance wife, cheating husband, or any other reason.
Either way, it's more than just Beef in my opinion. |

I had the same experience as the poster commenting on the Korean view of America being to blame, it's happened to me twice in the last month alone with one co t in her 20s. I had to have a short chat with her and ask her to reconsider her opinions. I really don't know where it comes from. Not American here either but the ingratitude is shocking. |

What upsets me is that it is the scholars that agree with and reinforce this strange anti-american/western mindset.
Why have the countries most academically acclaimed universities joined a protest that no-one seems to be able to justify anymore. Lee Myung Bak has agreed to renegotiate the deal. The US has agreed to review and revise the conditions.
The Japanese never had these problems because they were prepared for the situation. They had stipulations that America quite happily met. The Koreans, in my opinion certainly, have embarassed themselves and made their country look like the hub of half-wits. |

I'm American, I appreciate those comments. I don;t care what anyone on here says, when Americans are aware, we're some of the most compassionate people anywhere. We'll take our shirts off our backs for any stranger just like most Europeans, Canadians, Brits, Latinos.
But about the topic at hand; I wouldn't be surprised if protests continued even if the whole deal was scraped.
That's not good business.
I'll tell you where U.S. BEEF messed up. They made the Wal Mart mistake. They're trying to give Koreans a bargain. If US Beef would market the product as a delicacy and not interfere with cheapest Korean brands and of course guarantee Beef under 3 year, it would have done well.
Also, Lee Myeong Bak's my boy, but that guy is weak man. He need to step up to the plate and talk to his country before the get thrown out of the Blue HOuse.
