I've read a lot on first-time job-hunting, with the widest possible variety of responses, but the advice-givers often speak from years of experience with preference for what they have found to be the best way to land a job. It seems to me that many of you came for your first year teaching in Korea with a considerable blind-spot, and after that first year's learning curve, were able to work out more favorable employment/living conditions. So, I'm curious, how did you find your first job? |

well i've yet to start my actual job but i did the first four you mentioned. a person who saw my resume contacted me, but they were actually one of the companies that i applied to directly anyway. recruiters weren't too interested in following up with me if i didn't take the first thing they gave me, and as for networking, i only seemed to meet nutjobs that i didn't want to work for. |

I applied direct to one of the larger adult hagwons, through their website. |

I did it the old fashioned way. I answered an ad in the Newspaper. The ad was from the Korean embassy in Toronto. I got lucky. Never had to go through a recruiter. |

I searched through loads of ads, and posted ads as well. Ended up going through a recruiter who put us in direct contact with a public school. So our contract is through the school directly...no EPIK or whatever. Makes it so much better.

I'd really like to have this information too, if you wouldn't mind. I can't pm either for the same reason. Thanks! |
