Last week dozens of pro-tolerance demonstrators were attacked by members of a militant Islamic group - and on Monday several thousand hardline Muslims again took to the streets in support of banning the sect.
The Ahmadiyah have views that are seen as controversial by mainstream Islamic society.
A widespread belief among sect members is that their founder, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, was the final prophet of Islam - and not Muhammad.

who cares?
they killed all the christians there a few years back, now they're starting on eachother. Normal pattern for muslims. |

Well, they started with the Buddhists and Hindus who dominated the area. They removed all references to the native culture, less a few temples. |

The Indonesian government does not run Indonesia; the generals do. Laws don't mean that much there. |

I believe Christians are around 8% of the population and growing and some of the Muslims feel threatened. I am not really sure, because I don't live in Indonesia, and I never did, but some people are threatened by the presense of other religious groups, because they are afraid of having their religion questioned or that other religion to spread. They almost view it also as an insult. Doesn't Indonesia still have Hindus in the Bali area? |
