Yep, a huge issue right now in Japan and amazingly the human rights groups haven't been very agressive in their campaign against these government regulations. With the world's oldest population and a younger generation not having babies, the lack of money being generated to pay for health care is lacking. Instead of saying obesity is a problem, and confront the obese individuals head on, they end around by imposing these punitive fines to companies that do not institute their guidelines and meet the government's mandates. Their smoking analogy is so amazingly bad, too. People who quit smoking tend to pack on pounds, not take them off. Well, consider that Japan Tabacco, the countries biggest tobacco company, is owned by the Japanese government... Majority ownership that is. Japan should be offering incentives to those making weight and not threatening them. Many of these companies, in an effort to meet government mandates, are firing overweight employees. I've always been taught that you get more bees with honey.
