I've organized a newspaper club at my public school and have enough photos and stories to print. All we need to do is design a layout and get it printed. What is the easiest program to do this in? |

MS-word - multi column format, powerpoint can do the same and the learning curve is about 0 (wysiwyg).
Heck, for a school newspaper, paper, paste and the copy machine works fine too and gives a real professional looking result. |

MS Publisher.
Might seem a little strange at first, but it's a pretty easy program and comes with newsletter templates. Most importantly, where you put something on a page is where it stays, unlike Word, which induces hours of swearing as graphics and text boxes do what they want.

I second the_beavers suggestion for Publisher.
Word is a word processor not a layout program. Publisher is a the poor mans Indesign and does a damn fine job of it with almost zero learning curve. |

go with adobe products ... i can use ms publisher, but i find adobe more flexible ... and before office 2007, ms publisher was not a part of office and had to be purchased separately.
my university newspaper was put together using adobe pagemaker.
here's a list of good DTP programs.

adobe pagemaker and indesign can both be downloaded *cough cough* via bittorrent. |

Far more powerful and far more flexible than Publisher, but anything Adobe takes a whole lot of time to learn. If the OP wants to get into publishing, Adobe products are by far the superior choice, but just for a couple-off newsletters or handouts, Publisher is the way. |

Thanks a lot guys. To keep things simple I'll try MS Publisher, especially since I have to teach the students to use it. If I were doing all the editing and page layouts it would take way too much time |

I used to teach a CBI class and I taught all of the students to use Publisher in a very short time. It's the right choice for this sort of thing. |
