I'm not asking you to think the war was a good idea, I'm just asking you to think winning the war is a good idea. We know where we've been. Now, let's all honestly look at where we are. We haven't seen a situation this promising for some time, let's take advantage of it. I'm sure Barbara Walters will agree.

Aren't you Canadian? Who the hell is 'we'? Yankee fundamentalist and the tiny minority of Canadian God-botherers who wear the maple leaf but take their marching orders from Focus on the Family and other anti-Christlike 'Christian' lobbiests?

I've always heard the strategies for winning a cold war and a hot war are different. But be that as it may.

fiveeagles, since your standards of winning are entirely non-military, would I be right to conclude that you simply like war for the sake of war?

The war that I condone is based upon prayer and love.

War of any kind is evil and should always be the last, last, last resort. Like a pearl harbor event.

Excuse me while I sit here mystified as to how any of that relates in any way with the topic of this (your) thread.

Why?

I never agreed with this war. I thought it was a huge mistake.

However we are in now. Lets finish the best we can.

Winning a war means achieving a series of military objectives. You consistently refuse to list the military objectives we need to accomplish in order to declare victory.

This is really no different than teaching a class. An objective is NOT "I want to students to do better". You lay out a series of objectives in each area you are going to cover and set standards for the class to meet and how you are going to measure the students against those standards.

You keep talking this US stuff. Are you sending a son to battle? You could at least join the Canadian army and request duty in Afghanistan, freeing up US troops for the glorious war in Iraq. I'm sure they could use your engineering skills there. Too busy telling Africans about the power of witches?

What are you doing to win this war, killer?

Now that it's been mentioned, Bush says God told him to attack Iraq and he did. I wonder what Jesus thinks of the Iraqi war?

I am already in the war. I pray for them.

The military successes in Iraq's Al Anbar Province, by now, have been widely reported. In early 2007, local sheiks turned their backs on Al Qaeda and forged key alliances with coalition forces. The movement known as the Anbar Awakening drastically reduced violence across the province.

But did you know that U.S. casualties in Anbar have now dropped to the lowest levels since the U.S.-led invasion in March of 2003? Violence in Anbar peaked in November of 2004 when U.S. forces suffered more than 300 casualties. And, over the first five months of 2007, U.S. forces suffered 124 casualties.

Cybercast News reports over that same period this year January to May Defense Department statistics show there have been just 14 American casualties in Anbar a decline of 89 percent.

I actually tried to get into Royal College a few years back, but too old. If I was going to join...Captain School.

If things were to get worse, I would definitely join and be a part of the war effort. If I wasn't married and had two kids, I would definitely consider it.

Does anyone else who is not religious resent at some level the introduction of religion into everything these days?
