Hi all.

What is the official vacation date period for elementary students this summer?. I heard it's about 7/23-8/22. Please clarify.

unless something has changed dramatically in the last couple of years, that will vary from one school to the next. Check with a co-worker

Mid July to the end of august. Exact dates will vary from school to school - they are dependent on the Principal's choice for the exact start and end date.

Every teacher in the school, including you, is supposed to be issued, free of charge, the school's annual handbook. It doesn't matter if you can't read Korean as the part of the book that's important to you is a simple 2-page chart with shaded days for school breaks.

The Korean name for the chart is 2008학년도 학사 일정 및 수업시수 확보 연간 계획 (2008 hag-nyeon-do hak-si mit il-jeong su-eop-shi-su hwak-bo yeon-gan gye-hayk). It can be translated into English as "2008 School Basic Schedule and Study Plan."

Look for the shaded dates. Those are days the school is closed. A number of the non-shaded dates have something written under them. Ignore the ones with 토 followed by a number--those are the Saturday classes that will be meeting that day due to no Saturday classes two weekends a month. The other dates with writing under them are special events. If you can't read Korean, definitely get your co-teacher or someone you trust to translate those for you.

You'll notice that there are a couple of stretches of six weeks missing from the schedule at the end of each page. That's because those weeks are the school holidays at the end of the semesters.
