No brainer! |
Here's something to consider:
beginning yesterday, I will not work again until September at my uni. I will then work until mid December , then I will not work again until March. I will be paid that entire time. Therefore, I will work approximately 50 days, and will be off approximately 200 days. I will earn approximately $25,000 for working those 50 days.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it, corporate ladder lovers. |

I'm in a similar situation, but I'm teaching immersion for 3 weeks in June/July then I'm teaching a writing workshop.
However, I'm not complaining, because it's a light load and I'd be bored without the work anyway, and I'm being paid.
I've taught (French) at UC Santa Barbara (a nice place to live) and I've taught English at University of Bordeaux (another nice place to live).
However, my current gig is honestly the best teaching job I've ever had, simply because the students are so great. They're aspiring English teachers, so they (aside from the freshmen, who are just goofy) are really committed.
Another note: because I teach conversation classes (except for my lone "teaching English as English class"), I can grade finals on the spot. So no grading massively long finals. Bliss! |

However, you won't always be stuck at an entry level wage back at home. |
In the UK getting an entry level position is very difficult, especially without contacts. There are about ten graduates per job. I got a 2:1 which is often the benchmark but even I had no luck. Hence, I am planning on attending grad school hopefully. |
Forget it. I got a 1st class degree in physics and I can't get a bite. |

There is always teaching with the state. A secure job, a role you should be a little accustomed to now. You might also do a bit of good in the classrooms back yonder. |
Sorry but I am not a certified teacher back home. Anyway teaching is one of the lowest paid career fields that requires a college degree.
No thanks.... |

You need to come back home, grin and bear it, and start climbing the corporate ladder. |
Yes, mother.
Seriously though, "climbing the corporate ladder" is so 1980's, who actually still does that now-a days? We live in the age of a global economy, where, with a laptop and an internet connection, one can set up shop anywhere in the world and generate income.
Climb the corporate ladder? I may be an ESL teacher, but even I'm not THAT stupid. |
You'll just have to excuse MM2. He/she? doesn't seem to understand why some of us choose to not return to the rat race which was the very reason we left to begin with. Sure, for us it's a no brainer. The bottom line is whatever reason a person chooses to remain or return is a valid reason because we are all mature adults and can make our own choices. |
