by the supposed cruelty or inhumanity or whatever of Americans who did not rush into the street to comfort a man hit by a car, this story:
TURLOCK, Calif. - Police killed a 27-year-old man as he kicked, punched and stomped a toddler to death despite other people's attempts to stop him on a dark, country road, authorities said.
"It's been a long night of wondering, 'Why?' not only for the officers and the passers-by who stopped and tried to help out, but for anyone. Why would somebody do this?" Singh said.
The truck caught the attention of an elderly couple at 10:13 p.m. Saturday because it was stopped in the two-lane road facing the wrong direction, Singh said.
As they got closer, the couple saw the man brutally beating the toddler. Several other cars stopped. The occupants banded together to try to get the child away from the man, as well as trying to stop the man. All of the passers-by were elderly.
"They tried to intervene and get involved, but their efforts really didn't have an effect. The suspect was engaged in what he was doing. He just pushed them off and went back to it."
When a police helicopter landed at the scene at 10:19 pm, called by the passers-by, the man refused to stop beating the child and was immediately shot by a police officer. Resucitation efforts at the scene and at the hospital were unsuccessful in saving the child. |

What a charming story. Why, exactly, did you feel the need to post this?! |

The reason I felt the need to post it was that there were a number of people on here, who felt that a prior story about a man hit by a car in the US, was just reason to indict a whole country and it's 250 million + inhabitants as uncaring, callous, cold hearted etc. etc. |

When there are 6.4 billion people on the planet you're going to get a few people who are incredibly smart, and a few who are incredibly stupid. A few who are incredibly nice and a few who are incredibly cruel. Such is life. |

No. A few people took that line. But your cure has been far worse than the disease. |

Actually, I don't think it was a cure...just an opposing story. And if you feel that it was inappropriate to post this, that is most certainly your right and I don't object at all to your opinion. |

What we see: A story about a man beating a toddler to death then being shot by the police.
What you want us to see: Some elderly people unsuccessfully tried to stop him therefore vindicating the entirety of America's people. |

No, I'm not scared. Just absolutely sickened. The scene played over in my mind's eye along with the child's bewilderment and absolute terror and I had to work at blocking it out. Awful. I have 2 small children and stories like this really bring me down.
I'm glad that you can read it and not feel absolutely terrible. You are the lucky one.

I think if you are going to post something like this you should give the thread an appropriate title such as "Disturbing News Story".
Not all of us want to read a story like this. If other people want to & debate your point (which seems a little hazy to me) then I have no problem with that, but how hard is it to give a thread an appropriate title? |

Underwaterbob...that's just what you hoped I wanted you to read/think/see. Actually, my point was that it's not so simple as Steve Schertzer tried to portray.
One event does NOT indicate the feelings or behavior of an entire group. Not this one and not the one he used to try and indict all of America. I'm sorry the point escaped you guy! |

So you read this story and said I have to share this with my fellow netizens in Korea? Think twice next time. |

I've just thought twice...several times. I'd still post it, but I believe a warning that it was disturbing would have been appropriate. |
