|
|
Before I left last year I had a criminal record check done, to confirm that I had in fact been charged with a DUI. The other day I went to immigration to see if I could resign with my school and they said that it was possible as long as I had a letter of reference from my school. However, when I asked them if my criminal record was still valid (I had a copy of the one that I had done, with finger prints and sent to Ottawa) and they said no.
My question is: do I have to have my fingerprints taken again and wait the 6 weeks to get my record back from Ottawa? Or is there another simpler way?
I think I was able to get a record check back from a local station years ago for a lifeguard job but, I don't remember how long that took. I am going home for a month or so but, I would like to resign before I leave because I think it would be easier if I do it here. I have until July 8th. |

| If you have family at home, it should be easy. I had my prints done here. I took a KOrean friend to teh local police station, adn he explained what I wanted. They printed me. I sent those, plus a letter explaining what I needed a CRC for to my mother. She took that to the local police station there. I had it within a week. |

I suppose if you attack the Canadian embassy, you could get a Canadian criminal record from here. |

My criminal certificate gets here later today.
Here's what you do:
You need to send someone in your home country scanned copies of two pieces of PHOTO ID, your address, place of birth, colour of your eyes and your height. Prepare this on one piece of paper, preferably in colour so that the photo ID will be legible (visible ... ). By e-mail will work. Should probably be sent to a family member. Make sure the ID is large enough to read. I had to re-send mine because it was too small. Doesn't matter if all you info is on a couple of pages.
When whoever you send this to receives this information from you, They need to have it sworn by a Commissioner of Oaths. You'll have to find out where that is.
Once they receive your information, and have it swornt hey need to deliver it to the IFS (International Fingerprint Services). They must provide them a payment of $ 75.00 for processing and emission of the certificate for you.
After you receive it, you need to go to the embassy to swear an affidavit that it is you. Don't know how much that will cost, but I'll let you know later this week.
Then you have it.
Takes IFS four busness days to process you criminal certificate since they have to send it to Charlottetown.
There you have it. |

It's quick. If you want to wait forever, that's your choice.
It's very easy:
E-mail someone in Canada a Word document with your personal info and two scanned photo ID's.
They take the above to the Commissioner of Oaths to swear it in.
They take that document to IFS, pay them 75 bucks, and they process it. Takes 4 days.
Once IFS gets it back, have it shipped to you.
Once you get it, take it to the embassy and swear an affidavit. Cost is 47,500 Won (checked today).
Then you're good to go. |

But what about the step when they send it to the RCMP?
That's who does the CRC, no? Not the IFS or whatever.
I had mine done with prints from Mumbai, sent it to a friend who sent it in.
My friend opened it however, so don't know if I'm screwed.

try walking into the Canadian embassy. Steal one of the pens while the staff are watching. if that doesn't work, put a brick through the window. |

I have that option too I suppose. If I am renewing with the same school I should be able to just get everything together in Canada and bring it back to renew, no?
I would still rather get it all done while I am here. |

The steps are as I wrote them. Trust me. Doesn't matter if it's opened. You need to open the enveloppe to take it out. This isn't at "sealed" thing. Swearing to the Commissioner of Oaths suffices when you don't provide your fingerprints, but you need to swear an affidavit at the Canadian embassy. What's sent to you from Canada is a half-page, yellow paper and another full sheet of paper with whoever swears to the Commissioner of Oaths signature swearing that they have know you from a certain date and that it is you. The yellow paper (that's the criminal certificate - that's what it's called) states that no fingerprints were provided. That's why you have to go to the embassy to swear an affidavit that it is you. So you'll need what you swore an affidavit to and the yellow criminal certificate. Most likely what's sworn to the Commissioner of Oaths is only for the embassy. Doesn't hurt to have all three when you go to immigration, but maybe the embassy takes the Commissioner of Oaths paper. Don't know yet. I'm going to the embassy tomorrow. Either way, I'm in.
IFS (International Fingerprint Services) works to take the load off the RCMP.It's undre their jurisidiction, so to speak.
Stop doubting. What I said is true. Straight from the horse's fkg mouth. |

| So the person handling the documents for you in Canada takes them to the IFS after going to the Commission of Oaths, pay the $75, and then have IFS forward them to you here in Korea. That's it? Do you have to pay anything at the Commission of Oaths? |
