I got a handphone over six months ago. My girlfriend at the time was sick of not being able to get ahold of me so she bought me a phone (brand new color Samsung, )and put it in her name and spread the cost out over six months. Payments were to come out of her bank account and I was to reimburse her. Well, we broke up like 2 weeks later and we haven't spoken since. I always assumed she would call me and ask for the phone bill money but she never did. Meanwhile I used the phone for free for 6 months.

Anyway, all good things come to end. Suddenly the service was cut off the other day. Not slowly, whereas I could receive incoming calls, but all at once. I am assuming after the phone itself was paid off she cancelled the contract and disconnected the service. So the phone should be all paid up to date, but it's in her name and I would need her to sign something to transfer owenership (the law to cut down on phone theft). However, I can't get ahold of her. I think she may have had her number changed or gone on vacation. Not to mention I doubt she is too happy with me

Is there anyway to get around this? Can someone change the information inside the phone, like one of those places in Itaewon?
I'm sure all those phones for sale in Itaewon are not legit.

I don't want to buy a new phone, seeing as I have this expensive one and it looks next to new, is in English, and it basically rocks...

Wow, great story. What you need to do is sign up for a new service. I know you can get your own account with SK telecom, (I do), but you will have to pay the foreigner's deposit. Not sure what it is now. Back in 2000 it was 200,000 won. With your new account, I believe they can reprogram the phone to the new service and onto your bill. If you have somebody explain the ownership patner of your phone to them, I don't think they will care. If they are being a**holes then you might need your ex's signature or something.

Possession is 90%, so they can say whatever they want, but it would appear strange that she hasn't reported it "stolen" all this time.
