Are you a computer guru? Then I need your help.
I need a new laptop. Portability is key, so I want the screen to be no larger than 12" and it has to be as light as possible. I realize I have to sacrifice keyboard size, but I want to do this as little as possible.
I don't need it to play games, just to surf the internet, play movies, have a word processor, and have enough memory to store and edit pictures.
I've been looking at the HP Pavilion tx2000z series or HP HP Pavilion tx2500z series (see here) but I don't know three things:
1) if either one is good for my purposes
2) if the 2500 is significantly better for my purposes
3) what specs I need
Please help with #3 if you can so I can answer #1 and #2 for myself. |

I searched danawa and couldn't find either one of those models.
In August I'll probably be buying this laptop. |

Just click on the link I posted. I also saw them this weekend in I'Park in Yongsan. The price is a little higher here than in Canada, but not by much (I saw a lot of computers that day so I can't remember what the price was exactly).
That computer looks good, but to me a lot of computers look good. With this in mind, let me ask you: why that computer and not another? |

Because I don't want to spend more than a million, want a core2duo, 2gbs or ram and 12" or smaller. It's the only one I could find 12" that fit's the price bill - I'd actually prefer a 10" but can't find them for less than 1.4 million. |

Why would you want a core2 in a 12 inch? It's kind of a waste. You're not going to be doing any serious gaming or editing on a 12 inch. Unless you just have lots of money and want the best performance regardless. |

He'll want a Core 2 Duo so he can play movies. Especially if he's using an integrated graphic chip vs. a real graphics card. |

The tx2000z looks good enough for your needs to me. I downgraded the OS to 32-bit. You don't need 64-bit OS and I've heard there are more compatibility problems with it than with 32-bit Vista. I added another 1gig of memory. Total price is $925. You may want to add Bluetooth but that may just be the geek in me speaking . |

I don't play games. Any laptop larger than 12" is just a desktop wannabe in any case.
Why a core2duo - future proofing, I want the laptop to last as long as possible and my current machine is topped out at 512 ram and 2.2ghz and it's driving me nuts for being slow.
And yes I will be doing image editing with it and being able to open resource intensive programs when I'm away from my desktop is important - photoshop, flash, illustrator, and premier pro. My real workhorse is of course the desktop, but I'm away from home enough to need something that can cover my needs in a pinch.
Portability is primary for me as well as keeping it under a million won. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a 10" laptop in that range that has sufficient power - those little kojinshas are cool, but at less than 1ghz don't cut it for my needs.
Now if I didn't need to be able to run the above programs on occaision I would probably get a Kojinsha. |

Okay I guess it makes sense then. I just wouldn't be trying to do image editing on a 12 in laptop. It would be nothing but frustration for me. Personal preference I guess. |

I'm not saying it's going to be fun, but it is likely to be necessary.
right now I do my editing on my dual 22" monitors (one in vertical profile) and love it. |
