Hello all,
I am thinking of buying a second hand Powerbook G4 for $700. I really dont know much about computers and was seeing if this is a good price. I am unsure of the exact specs but I do know it is 1.67Ghz, has 1G ram and 100 gig HD. I dont know whether the HD is the Ultra ATA/100 7,200rpm though.
$700 = good deal?
Thanks! |

No. 500 bucks more and you can have a new macbook with double the features... and more.
Apple has a 10% discount for 'educators'. You can order by phone in Korea and they will deliver for free. |

G4 is pretty old. you shouldn't pay that much for it. if you want a mac get a newer one. |

$500 more for a new macbook but with a 12-13" screen. A G4 is older but still a good machine.
But yeah, if you want a mac, get a new one. The intel processors are slick, and the ability to run both OS X and Windows is nice |

Thanks for all the info guys, I decided against buying it. I'm after a laptop in the $1000 range with a large screen and that can handle most things (I'm not a gamer so it doesn't have to be super fast). Music editing software, decent DVD playback and the usual stuff. Any recommendations? |

Um buy a macbook + adapter for video out + 22 or 24 inch monitor.
I had a notebook with a huge screen and believe me when I say it was the biggest waste of money ever. In the end I ended up hitching it up to an external monitor anyways.
Once I head back to Canada I'll be buying a 22 inch monitor cause I am sick of staring at a 13 inch monitor on this macbook. |

You could try finding a used MacBook Pro? Which is a lot faster.
I have to say, after using Macbook (which was great), I've upgraded to MacBook Pro and I honestly can say it's the best computer I've ever owned.
Best of luck to you. |
