So, my director has me working at three different schools. It is really quite frustrating and annoying. Is he really allowed to do this? Is there any way I can refuse to work outside my own school?

If they aren't branches of the same company, and these locations are not marked down on your Alien Registration Card (by a little trip to Immigration) then no, you're not allowed to be farmed out and will be fined if caught by Immigration. You have full rights to refuse to do this.

Refuse to do it. If you get caught, you'll be the one paying for it, not him.

If he objects, tell him you're going to call the labor board for advice on what to do.

It doesn't matter if they are branches of the same school, if your work visa doesn't have the particular address listed you can't be working there. Don't call the Labor board, call immigration; they are the ones who deal with visas and visa stipulations.

You do need permission from immigration to work at different place that isn't on your visa costs 30,000won.

If I was you I would try and talk things through with your boss before whistle blowing at immigration as people hate it when others go behind their backs.

I'll vouch for this. A few years back Megaton, that awful franchise in Ulsan, opened a new branch and sent one of the teachers there without reporting it. Immigration somehow found out. He didn't get in trouble but the boss had to pay 2,000,000 won in "fines".

I really hope you are not working for a guy named Shin or Lee or Kim...he has changed his name a couple of times, due to the fact he is big trouble,..... the name of his main school is michigan campus.....

if not...here is my advice as it happened to me. I was so sick of being farmed out....I got licence plate numbers, business cards, pictures...of the schools and people he had me farmed out to....then i bribed him with it...to change the situation, he gave me so much trouble about it i finally threatened...in turn he let me go, no hassles, and gave me 3 million to shut up.

good luck

Weird that this is coming up on the boards. One of my friends got caught at her secondary school and, after a big ordeal, her boss was fined 1,000,000 won. My friend had no idea that this was illegal and thought everything was fine. She was very freaked out. The next day, I asked my boss about my other school and told her about my friend. She shrugged it off, but guess what? I don't have to go to the other school anymore! They have, mysteriously, that their students don't time for English right now. Yeah!! No more rat school!!!

Anyways, word to the wise, make sure it's all on the up and up or don't go!!

I would calmly explain to him that immigration does not allow you to work legally at any place other than that listed on your ARC (don't mention the ability to add an additional location to your ARC unless you want to end up being farmed out some more). Then tell him that since this is the case, you don't want to face fines anymore than he wants to have to pay fines so you don't want to work at other locations any more.

If he threatens to fire you then call immigration and report him the next day.

If he doesn't believe you then tell him he should call immigration and check it out for himself.

Try to make it seem like you are doing him a favour as this can get you in the good books and that can be more useful to you later on...you are owed a favour.

Cheers and good luck.
