The only fan death I believe is one somehow catching fire and the fire spreading or a rock star getting shot by a crazed fan.

Wait a minute there adventurer...

I'm sorry to have to break this to you...

But like Brucie in 6th sense have you noticed at all recently that when people interact with you it could just be coincidental and the same scenes would transpire were you not really there....

I'm worried that you might be a ghost and did once indeed die from fan death...

sorry to have to break it to ya pal... (that sound slike something bruce would say in Die hard.)

I went to sleep the other night with a fan on (hadn't owned one before). It was about 4ft from my bed, on low 'blow', and was doing the semi-circular rotation. My bedroom is approximately 10x10ft, and the door was closed.
I woke up a few hours later gulping for air. (I'll add that I do not suffer from any sort of breathing problems).
I got up, and instinctively opened the window and sucked back some deep breaths of (I was going to say fresh) NIGHT air.
I read what someone wrote about the fan re-circulating your expelled air ... and Im pretty sure that is exactly what happened. Confused

So, I died, and wound up in "Korea"? Is Korea heaven?Smile
Gotcha! This place is kind of a funny place... Where on Earth would you ever hear about fan death? And the funny thing is when you ask Koreans about various things about Korea some act like they never heard about it, or that it's all exaggerated.

Wow.. straight from the horse's mouth! Excellent find glimmer.

Or some other part of the horse's anatomy, maybe.

Oh, and to answer my own question as to whether air-conditioners are equally dangerous, the Korean Consumer Protection Board says YES!

Quote:
Beware of Summer Hazards!

The Korea Consumer Protection Board (KCPB) issued a consumer safety alert after analyzing injury data related to summer accidents collected for the past three years through its Consumer Injury Surveillance System (CISS).

The top five recurring accidents are: asphyxiation from electric fans and air conditioners; childrens asphyxiation inside cars; explosions inside cars; air conditioner explosions; and sanitary accidents at home.

■ Doors should be left open when sleeping with the electric fan or air conditioner turned on.

If bodies are exposed to electric fans or air conditioners for too long, it causes bodies to lose water and hypothermia. If directly in contact with a fan, this could lead to death from increase of carbon dioxide saturation concentration and decrease of oxygen concentration. The risks are higher for the elderly and patients with respiratory problems.

From 2003-2005, a total of 20 cases were reported through the CISS involving asphyxiations caused by leaving electric fans and air conditioners on while sleeping. To prevent asphyxiation, timers should be set, wind direction should be rotated and doors should be left open.

You have been warned.
