I simply put a pirated copy of XP Pro black on mine and now many teachers comment on how cool my desk top looks.  |

| Yep. They didn't ask, they just took my computer away for a couple of days the week I arrived & it came back with the English version. |

Yes, most of the teachers in our district do.
I made a comment at an open class with the district superintendent in attendance that it was really stupid of the city to spend as much money as they do hiring a foreigner and then don't give us the tools to actually do our job.
What is the use of getting us a nice, new computer with Korean windows on it. Spent the 100k won for English windows so we could actually do something other than surf the net with the computer.
The changes occurred shortly after that.

My first day at my school I was showed to my desk where a lovely new laptop with English Windows was waiting for me ("It's yours! Do whatever you want with it!"). When they were unable to hook it up to the printer in the room for some reason, tears were almost shed. I received compensation in the form of baked goods.
All I have to say is, third time's a charm for me with schools in Korea. |

Well, they tried. 
Basically, the laptop they gave me is not good. I don't know much about computers but I know enough to figure out that it has some minor hardware failure issues (minor as in, you can still get it to run... for awhile) but a replacement is not on the way.
They tried to install English windows on it at my request and it crashed hard shortly after. I am currently on my second defective laptop and fourth installation of windows since I started in March.
I gave up, and now I just use it to surf the internet. |

Nice new computer. Sounds like a pipe dream. When I first started, the "native teacher's" computer was a Pentium 2 833 mhz piece of shit. Surprising, the last 3 native teachers before me used this machine. On my first day I told them I wanted a different computer.
What did they do? They found another piece of crap computer slightly better than mine in some closet and now I'm using that. I believe its a Pentium 4 1.2 GHZ now. I was shocked that it actually had 2 USB ports in the back.
Meanwhile, the entire computer lab gets brand new Core 2 Duo machines, and the Korean teachers are getting their computers upgraded. I know if I complained some more, they'd just hand me down another computer from a Korean teacher who just got a new one.
As soon as I got the computer though, I formatted all the crap on it and installed Win XP Pro, Office 2003, cool messenger, etc... The computer tech guy was suspicious when I stopped by asking him for drivers. |

My shitbox is better than your shitbox! Pentium 4 1.6 GHZ, oooh baby.
The last native teachers used their own laptops at school. Uh huh. Luckily (?), I have no laptop so I had an easy out.  |

| I was handed a Dual Core 2 Duo with English Windows and English Office. I actually sent it back to put Korean windows on it. |

When I started last year I got the use of a computer with the same specs as the other subject teachers. A bunch of old computers was just dumped in the jondam office ready to turf, big ass monitors etc 3rd grade teachers had it bad for awhile 
I bring my laptop in but use in on breaks, i.e no school work on it! |
