The vice-principal at my school has been attending some kind of training to become a principal for the last five months, and yesterday he found out that I would not be participating in the city sponsored English camp. Before I signed another one year contract with my school, I negotiated with the principal to have a one week summer camp at my school, but with 3 hours in the morning and 3 in the afternoon. Im going to condense the total number of hours into one week so that I could get more vacation time. I guess he got into an argument with my co-teacher yesterday when he found out about the arrangement, and explained that my duty was to teach English, not go on vacation. He eventually backed down since I had signed the contract with my exact vacation dates written in, but that's beside the point.

I volunteered to start an English newspaper at my school, but apparently this goes unnoticed. Luckily the VP is leaving after summer vacation, but god, dont they (employers) ever care about employee morale or job satisfaction? My lessons have been a lot better than last year, and many of the other teachers have told me what a good job I do in class, but I hate the fact that people like my VP just want us NTs to teach, teach, teach

Lesson learned: Don't volunteer ever again for anything.
Lesson they should learn (but, of course, won't): Screwing you over will stop you from volunteering.

In Korea? Generally, no.

Yep, that's a bit cynical. There are some cases where the above does not hold true. Luckily, both my current principal and previous principal do not fit the mold.

As policy I refuse to teach anywhere but at my own school. I'm planning a one-week summer camp this year that's arranged completely by my school and me. The district can have the photos if they want.

My principal is cool and several teachers have told me that he is the best that they have worked under. I'm quite happy with the contract that I have, thanks in part to his willingness to agree to the modifications that I made. It just pisses me off when the VP has been back for a couple of weeks and starts flipping out because Englisheee is not being taught 24/7 at the school. The guy doesn't even speak English himself Rolling Eyes

I taught my camp last summer, winter and spring(february) at my school as well, and have taken photos of the kids working on various projects in order to satisfy the local education office.

People in hell want ice water.

So the VP wants more camps? Fine, as long as he/she'll be there every day for the entire time and for the entire duration of the camp(s).

Freakin 'managers'.

OP, if the Principal is on your side, how much harm can a Vice Principal do? Use your influence and get the Principal to help you squash this.
Use office politics to your advantage.

Excellent example of getting things in writing. Even if verbally promised certain vacation dates, you would now be getting screwed if you didn't have it on paper.
