OECD secretary-general Angel Gurria expressed concern Wednesday at a "protectionist mood" in the US Congress, saying it could threaten planned trade pacts with South Korea and other countries.

What a freaking hoot. US "Protectionist mood"??? Threaten trade with South Korean!?!?!??! Angel Gurria is IN Korea right now, and doesn't see Korea's protectionist mood?

Unbelievable.

Next thing you know, they will say the US is too "Communist" and with threaten business with China.

I'd like to read the rest of that article.

Could you point me in the right direction?

I blame the real outcomes of trade agreements, that were never free, and a half-assed attempt to clean up the mess they left. Managed trade is fine but those who are left behind, or whose jobs leave them behind, need serious help. Telling them to take care of old people or serve burgers isn't a realistic solution.

Fortunately, many offshored jobs are coming back. The price of oil is causing this (see Monday's WSJ). The price of energy is estimated to be similar in effect to a 8% import tariff.
