|
|
I've been looking around the forum for info about int'l schools but it's just not working. What I would like to know is what would be my chances for hire at an int'l school.
Cert in secondary educ social studies
cert in pedagogy
1.5 yrs exp teaching
4 yrs exp tutoring esl students in Hist and Eng
I can teach esl but I would prefer something in my subj area.
I could do public school but what salary should I be looking for? |

There are only a handful of international schools in Korea, so...
At a public school teaching ESL, you can expect 2.2 million, I think. |

And what I'd really like to know is, how much the International Schools pay? Around 3 mil, right? Anyone? |

Isn't 2.2 the average for those with BAs? I'm under the impression that DELTA/CELTA/TESOL, etc aren't really useful but I was hoping the fact that I've been trained and have exp teaching would be some type of salary stepping stone.

I have a BA in History with Educ cert (I got it all along side my BA). In America, there are no teaching "degrees", at least from what I know, you get certified in your subj area/ grade group. You can though get an MA in educ. |

you have a good shot with your certification. KIS was just hiring and still might have openings (?). the positions fill up fast with the international schools. their requirements are usually certification plus experience. salary is on par, if not better, than US standard packages for instructors (what with housing included and the more friendly tax rate). good luck! |

Look into the Hong Kong NET program. Great place to be for real teachers. You don't get much extra here in Korea for qualifications. |

I have to second that, especially for a first timer. I was Florida state certified to teach social studies (grades 6-12) prior to coming here and it made very little difference in the salary.
Obviously, your experience and extra certifications will make you a more attractive teaching candidate, but don't expect them to necessarily qualify you for too much more pay. |

OP, you could also check out the DOD programs. They hire certified teachers, and the pay and conditions rock. You'd be living high off the hog in Seoul with DOD supported housing, too! |

Where can I find info on DOD schools? When I do a search all I can find are Non-DOD int'l schools. |

You can do it. Keep trying. Anything worth finding is worth the effort. |

You can fill an on-line application.
Get your ducks in a row because you only get one chance.
Check, double-check and triple-check all requirements.
Great opportunities not just in Korea but all over the world.
Best of luck!!
Side Note: this is the DOD website but sometimes it is down
