Does the ROK government branches and institutions hire foreigners? I'm thinking of something else than teaching English or proofreading their speeches. Since I'm not a native English speaker and don't hold a BA or MA from "the seven countries," teaching English isn't an option for me and many Euros like me.

According to the Korean immigration law, I'd be qualified to teach Finnish and Swedish, but understandably no one in his right mind wants to waste his time with eiher of those languages. Razz If you do, you ain't right in the head!

I think that Seoul City government, KNTO and UNESCO Korea hire few foreigners now andthen, but what about:

Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency or KNPA
Korea Immigration Service (Ministry of Justice)
    National Human Rights Commission
Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism
Ministry of Education, Science and Technology
Ministry of Foreing Affairs and Trade
    etc.

As I see it, many of these institutions (e.g. immi, SMPA, KNPA, Foreign Affairs) could really benefit from hiring foreigners. If for nothing else than to help and communicate with other big noses. Maybe even to police their official bulletin boards? In my not so humble opinion, the SMPA forum is a joke that has gone too far. *sigh*

Personally I wouldn't mind to admin the Blue House's "Dear President forum" if there is one to begin with. Maybe LMB needs a foreing drinking buddy after a hard day at work? If I were him, I'd get tanked every night!

They outsource western companies who send engineers and other specialized professionals on assignments to Korea.

I did meet many engineers from Germany, Canada, and America who are sent by companies from home on temporary assignments to share the knowledge with Korea. This is how Korea is doing it outside of teaching.

I feel they should hire more foreigners such as web developers, programmers, accountants, marketing, and executive assistants. Some people do company teaching, but it's piece work where it's not a real job with all the benefits.

Whilst I agree with your sentiment, it's never going to happen whilst graduate unemployment remains so high here. What a lot of foreign companies do to get staff a visa for here is give them 50 million won and claim they are investors (D8 visas). If you have a lazy 50 million this is a very good option.

Immigration has people from the Phillipines, Vietnam and China working for them. I saw them working at the counter in the immigration office. I guess the answer is yes, the government does employ foreigners.

Yes, they check you alright. It happened to me without realising it.

The Korean Govt will not rush to employ you. During the wait, your authenticity is checked.
