This poll is to find out how many employees are being defrauded in Korea. This poll is only to do with Tax withheld, not pensions or health insurance.
Go to: http://www.nts.go.kr/eng/resources/resour_41.asp?top_code=R001&sub_code=RS04&ssub_code=RSD1
and click on "Check Your Monthly Withholding Tax" on the right possibly bottom of the screen [btw use internet explorer, I have had trouble with Mozilla]. Enter the amount in thousands (ie 2,100,000 enter as 2,100) that you earn per month and click for check.
Employees can only withhold this amount for an employee by law, do not believe any nonsense you hear about residents tax, yes this is added at the end of the year to your tax bill but as a foreigner with your 30% tax exemption this is covered and then some by your standard withhold rate.
Also if your contract says any fixed amount including 3.3% run, they are stiffing you. Tax is complicated, things like your payment of health insurance, pensions, credit/debit card spending, male/female, mobile phone purchase, healthcare spend, and etc all reduce the amount you pay. Tax here is low for low paid foreigners like teachers. |

Tax is minimal, so I've never bothered to see if it was correct. |

Your 'handle' is appropriate!

my boss is very honest, he pays full pension, national health insurance and tax, he even displayed them on the board at work the otherweek just so we'd know.....i have never doubted him, he and the principal of the school have always been really good to us, next week is my last week in the school, i'm very happy to be finishing but i have really enjoyed my time here, mainly because my hagwon has been great to me, if i ever came back i would prob work down here again (either that or look to them for adive about working in seoul) but i really can't see myself coming back here to teach, i'm gonna have to get a proper job |

Tax is according to the NTS website.
Pension is according to the pay ranges set by the National Pension Office and according to the monthly invoice.
Health Insurance is also according to the monthly invoice from the Health Insurance office.
The Wonjangnim signs each employee up, in person, and she goes with them to the pension office so they can collect their pension money before they leave Korea.
Everything is itemized and correct and listed on the pay sheet each month. |
