I came over here with almost $60,000 in student/personal debt when I came over here 2.5 years ago. Haven't paid off nearly as much as I would have liked, but I'm going to hunker down now.

Has anyone else come over here with enormous debt? Did you get it paid off? How long did it take?

Sometimes I wonder if this is the best way to go to pay off what I owe. Not too many good paying jobs in my field back home though.

Yep, I'll be coming over then in another year with a bit more. Thankfully, there are some things that I don't do like drink, smoke, or go out. Yeah, I'm boring but anywho. Good luck!

finished paying off my debt about a month before i arrived in 05'...but when i got to korea probably had only $200 in my wallet and about $600 in my acct back home.

$44,000... Student loans + Credit cards. Knocked it down to $38,000 since I've been in Korea and plan on doing more this year.

I had just over 17,000pounds in debt when I came here. After two years of being here, it's down to just about 5,000pounds...gotta admit I busted my balls to get it paid down that much, but it's been well worth it.

I had 0. My student loan was $5000 in 1991 and retired that a couple years later.

I had 13k and I was able to pay it off within 8 months of getting here. I just wanted it gone though, debt makes me uncomfortable.

None. Army comped my first two years of school, then I worked full time at night after I got out until I graduated.

once again, the middle class rolls out the debtor blues. if you don't want debt, quit borrowing money.... not everyone needs to have a university education. you can be just as happy as milk maids, bathroom custodians and lorry drivers.
