Before I came to Korea I sent a parcel of books to a friend who lives here to hold on to while I found a job. Nearly four months later there's been no sign of them. Do you think they might have been impounded? What can I do?

Did you send them by surface or air?? My mum sent me a package by surface and it took over 3 months to arrive. Apparently the containers on cargo ships will only be loaded when they are completely full so theres a chance your books could still be sitting in port at your home country. Other than that some nosy *beep* at customs could have opened them up saw the foreign name and couldnt be bothered to pack them back up again. My girlfriend has had a couple of packages from Canada vanish without a trace. Its never happened to me but its not unheard of im afraid.

Surface means lost three boxes of my books between the United States and South Korea. Gone and never heard from again.

Use FedEx.

I didn't receive all my boxes I sent surface from Korea to the US. I sent 3 and one didn't ever make it. Luckily it was just work clothes and Winter clothes with nothing irreplaceable.

I believe lots of stuff is lost regularly.

Sent it surface mail.

Surely it should be possible to contact the Korean equivalent of Customs and Excise or whatever ... by which I mean, have a Korean contact them and try to find out if it's sitting there somewhere. I have a reference number on the receipt.

I just sent a message via online form to ParcelForce. They might respond. The response might even be useful.

I used surface before I came. Post Office in the UK said about 3-months. One box turned up after 3, six boxes turned up after 4-months and the final one turned up in January. I posted them over a 3-week period last July so the last box took 6-months.

Don't give up just yet.

If you kept your forms, you can put a tracer on the missing box at the post office.

Mushy peas are to be had at HomePlus in Jamshil. It's likely other branches of HomePlus have them as well. SW brand.

The Korean postal service/customs must read this forum, because my friend e-mailed me today to say my package had arrived along with a parcel of his own.
