Since when?
Russia backed into the tourney and backed into the quarters.
Suddenly they are world beaters?
Hate to quote ESPN but maybe it's a case of ORANGE CRUSH. |

1: They have Guus Hiddink (The Tactical genius!)
2: and Andrei Arshavin a gifted young player who is under rated!
not to mention the side is strong and full of young strong players..
IM not saying they are the world beaters! im just saying they out played the dutch last night..
not to mention hiddink knows the dutch squad better than anyone else
so for him to defeat them is not so hard |

| Before the tournament, I favoured the Dutch. I'd like to see Spain do it but I can't look past Germany. No matter who's in charge, or who's in the team, they always perform in big tournaments. |

I don't know anybody that ever put money on Spain, England, or Holland when dealing with major tournaments. They each seem to destruct at some point, and it will be no different with Spain.
Talented individuals, but collectively a bunch of prima donnas.
They may have what it takes to get by Italy, but they won't be going all the way. We'll be looking at a Germany/Russia final. |

Not quite. Remember Euro 2000. The only good thing about it for England was that we just managed to get past an even more abysmal German side 1-0. Definitely take your point though, as an Englishman, I'd give anything for the winning mentality of the Germans.
Great tournament though, eh? I was gutted to lose Portugal, but if you can't be bothered to defend set-pieces, you get what's coming to you.
Now, as long as the Italians don't win, I'm happy. |

I quite liked Glenn Hoddles comment about that game on why England would beat Germany
'Because it kicks off at 19:45' quipped uber God botherer Hoddle.
It was one of the worst games of football I have ever seen though a fantastic result for all concerned because Germany losing is nearly as good as England winning.
Italy are deservedly out - Playing their boring, horrible, defensive football they played out for penalties and lost - Good!
There are going to be two good, entertaining semi finals. |

Wow! Nostalgic feeling posting here again and good to see some of the old characters are still around.
I'm predicting a seriously physical match tomorrow, what with Turkey practically needing to field the physios the make up a team. The Turks, with the walls of adversity closing in on them with nothing but spirit driving them on, are basically going to set out to kick seven barrels of kack out of Klose, Podolski, Ballack and co. whenever they come within 20 metres of goal. Expect some very destructive man marking jobs on the above players and at least one red card for Turkey, maybe even two given their track record in the tournament. Who knows, perhaps Turkey will provide some additional forms of side theatre to keep us entertained but I don't see any comebacks against Germany's Maignot like back line. Not a chance in hell. History is victorious and the tuetonic title machine marches onto its first title since '96. It's that simple!
As for my interest in the outcome, Podolski as final golden boot recipient makes me a tidy US$1,200 and Podolski GB + Germany as champion over two grand. With Spain's Villa already on 4, my fingernails have already been reduced to stumps! So for these obvious reasons I am praying to almighty god that the German medical staff have implanted reinforced titanium parts into 'Poldi's' ankles, shins, calves and thighs and that the ref provides my potential little cash angel with a magic circle of protection!
Go Poldi Go! |

I'm not a big conspiracy theorist when it comes to football unless it's domestic Italian football, but something was a bit fishy about the Turkey-Germany game.
First two goals fine. Rustu coming out three miles to punch a cross he was never going to get arose my suspicions. Then Jens Lemon with a pathetic attempt to gather the ball coming in, knowing full well the other bloke was going to get it. A decent goalie should never be beaten at his near post especially like that. Then the final goal was a bit dubious, with the Turkish defence all ball watching and not following Lahm after his one-two.
The odds on 3-2 Germany were huge somebody made a lot of money. |

Germany v.s Spain
Spain hasn't won anything in modern times but 12 years is a pretty big drought for Germany. |

True, and so strange considering the aristocrats of of football who respresented them in the past such as Michel, Butruaguaneuo, Salinas, Bakero etc.
They have played with such finesse in this tourney that they totally deserve their chance at some long overdue success. I can still remember the despair loaded look on Luis Arconada's face as Michel Platini's nightmarish free kick squirmed under his body at the Park des Princes all those years ago. Who would have imagined it would take another 24 years for such a talented footballing nation to get another chance?
Good luck to Spain! |

Always remember in Mexico '86 when the Spanish SMASHED the best team in the tourney who were Denmark (or it could be argued - the French) Butragueno storming them whilst the Spanish put 5 goals past the Danes in the second half - only to lose to frigging Belguim!
Belguim for Gods sakes!
If Spain had got past Belguim, I think they would have given Maradonas Argentina an argument but the man was on fire that year - it would have been tough! |

A little disappointed in the final. Germany created zero scoring chances in the last 25min. Was hoping for some drama.
Anyway it will be a hell of a party in Spain. |
