Are American Express travellers cheques issued at Korean banks to waegukins?

Also would one have to go to Seoul or another big city to get them?

From what i heard, you have to go to an amex office to get them. I know there is one in Seoul... son't know exactly where...look online... also, you need an amex card to get them..... the banks deal with visa cheques

you can only get them if you have an amex card???

Would the airport be a safer option? Are there no Travelex branches at incheon airport?

Take cash and plastic. T/Cs issued from Korea are problematic at best.

I was able to get mine at my regular KB bank. Nothing special, they had them in the bank when I walked in. Just need your passport.

Dude everyone knows you can get them issued but its whether they will be accepted abroad. Ttompatz suggests otherwise regardless of whether they are branded with Amex and / or Visa or otherwise. Obviously the Korean behind the counter will tell you they are the greatest thing since sliced kimchi but will they be accpeted.

I had KEB VISA T/C's 6 months ago and was able to cash them in Cambodia with no problems, but was refused service in many Thai banks. I had asked for AMEX T/C's before leaving Korea last January, but none were available.

My VISA T/C's had a phone number in England for customer service so they might have international protections like most T/C's would have where if you lose it, you can get a replacement without going back to Korea.

Okay, so AMEX T/C in American dollars issued by a Korean Bank are no good outside Korea?

Okay who has problems with them except for the one member who has said here? And, did the cashing agent say why when they didn't cash them in?

Curious about this with me going to Africa with them. Ouch!!!

I thought about getting them from an Amex branch in Seoul or possibly direct from the airport but any previous post or thread I have checked people have had problems and issues with them.

Where have you been with them? And, did you use a AMEX office to cash or another financial company.
