|
|
Does anyone know where in Seoul can I rent a stringed instrument? Specifically, I would like to rent a viola for a couple of months, to play at a church here in Seoul. (I don't own one in the US, or else I would have brought one with me.) I'm no Itzhak Perlman of the viola, so a student instrument would be fine. The closer to Sinchon (where I live), the better. TIA.

Uh, yes, I know that. What I was saying was that I'm no virtuoso on the viola like Perlman is on the violin. (I don't know offhand of any viola virtuosi, hence the comparison.)

How about Lionel Tertis, William Primrose, or Michael Kugel? Sorry for being so captious. |

Good Lord, aren't we nit-picky? I should have said that I don't know of any big-name viola virtuosi, who's living, and who doesn't also double as a violin virtuoso. Let's see, Tertis & Primrose aren't living (neither is Walter Trampler), I've never heard of Kugel. Pinchas Zuckerman doubles as a violinist, and so does Jaime Laredo. Yuri Bashmet doubles as a conductor. Most violists I've heard of are violists in string quartets: Michael Tree (Guarneri), Lawrence Dutton (Emerson), Peter Schidlof (Amadeus), Piero Farulli (Italiano), and so on. But these names aren't well known, I think, as musicians like Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Lang Lang, etc.
Anyway, that's just my (un)informed opinion. I'm withdrawing my request for finding places that rents violas, because I was able to get help elsewhere. So mods, feel free to lock this thread.

Try Nakwon Music Mall. I don't know if they rent out instruments, but you can buy a cheap one too. It's in the Seoul Lonely Planet Guide. |

You can play my banjo string if you want. Just don't snap it. |
