I can see some holes. Or more, realize the realistic operations during wartime. I'm not making any personal opinion. Rather than that, I just love the history of it. It's fascinating.

This is revisionist history.
Far more interesting, in my opinion, is Doris Kearns Goodwin's 'Team of Rivals'. She gives a good view of how Lincoln used the skills of his main political rivals by putting them in his cabinet, and the results of the decision. Another good Civil War book I've read recently is 'Nothing But Victory' about the Army of the Tennessee under Grant and Sherman. It argues that it was this army that really won the War, not the Army of the Potomac. A fun read is 'Confederates in the Attic' which is a guy travelling through the modern South talking to people who are obsessed with the War and how the South will rise again. |
