I ate at Popeye's yesterday and when I asked for hot sauce, they gave me some lameass sweet chili sauce and charged me an extra 200 KRW for it. And the chicken was not nearly as spicy as it should've been.
Any good Cajun restaurants in Seoul that serve up a decent piece of spicy fried chicken with real hot sauce? |

and while we're at it, let's point out that KFC does not have potato wedges, macaroni, mashed potatoes, beans, cole slaw.. everything in Korea is a shitty impersonation of something else. |

Yeah, I actually trekked to KFC months back when I wasn't on a strict diet. I really wanted Kfc with mashed potatoes and biscuits. Dude. Not on the menu! What up with that?
There's no reason, there's no frickin reason to get that greasy food without the empty, fat-filled carbs!
I actually mentioned this to my students and one of them said they did have the mashed potatoes, but by that time I was off the fast food and I haven't gone back. |

Chicken places have had a tough go here - referring to the western franchise joints.
When Popeye's first opened here, they DID have mashed potatoes, cajun gravy, red beans & rice, cajun rice, etc.
Similarly, KFC had a lot of other 'normal' sides, as well.
But we are just a teensy bit of their customer base. They have to tailor items to meet Korean tastes. Much like the seafood pizza options from Pizza Hut.
Combined with the fact most Koreans would rather have the traditional-style chopped smaller pieces, and doing a simple price comparison with your local chicken hof, it is not too hard to see what a lot of the franchise have gone bust.
I want my lemon Lil' Bucket Partfaits & Chicken Littles!
For better Cajun food, I suggest checking around for the Zatarain's boils, kits for side dishes, etc. (like a Jambalya kit!) & making it yourself. We had a big rooftop cajun boil last year that was a blast. |

Are ya'll from Louisiana? Is it even possible to find those things in South Korea? If so, it will make my life a bit easier. |

You can find the Zatarain's packages at the Red Door market in Itaewon.
Last time I looked they had the red beans and rice, black beans and rice and jambalaya mixes there.
As for biscuits, if you have a toaster oven or oven you could just make them from scratch....they aren't that difficult to whip up.
If you go to the Red Door market in Itaewon, check the fridge to the left for frozen okra. They sometimes have a package or two stashed away in there.

That's nothing. Yesterday I did a poo and could smell what I had for dinner the night before! So the disgust. |

It makes me laugh to see people who have never tried "Nando's" even talk about "good" franchise chicken. If you had you'd know nothing else is worth eating. Amateurs. |

I love Popeye's. Who cares if they don't have mashed potatoes. You can make that at home. I'm jsut glad they have actual biscuits. Not the Honey/sweet crap they have at KFC. |

I'm from New Orleans! Really miss the food. Popeye's here has a menu that's unfamiliar to me Where's the etoufee? Gosh I miss crawfish...and gumbo...and, hey if you have a cookout, I better get an invitation!!
Oh and I've seen Paul Prudhomme's seasonings and Tony Cachere's too. And real tabasco sauce is everywhere. I have Cafe du Monde coffee at my house and some Zatarains products I brought back with me. I've seen Okra for sale (frozen) at the International Mart.
I don't know of any real Cajun restaurants in Korea. Hey if you get tired of teaching, let's establish Korea's 1st Cajun/Creole restaurant! Yummmm |

And you have obviously never eaten at Bojangles! People who went to school in North Carolina before returning back North or West make it a first stop upon coming back to visit.
Where is Nando's? |
