I'm 38 years old and was just told by a 19 year old chick (20 Korean age) who saw me after exercising that she liked me.
Half my age!! Yes!! |
You're 38 but still you strut around town trying to wind up Koreans like you're some sort of hormonal teenager. What will it be next? An outrageous haircut? A pierced ear? Let's see how the squares deal with THAT!! |

I used to jog through the Cheonho red light district just about all the time, but with a shirt on. I would be tired by the time I got there, but it would give me an adrenaline rush that would carry all the way back to the apartment. Have you ever jogged through an RLD shirtless, and if so, what were the reactions? |

Yeah I know what you mean.
Basically the drunks and dudes my age don't like it. Old ladies don't like it. Old men are a split. Chicks from middle school to 40 usually stare smile or say hello. Oh yeah quite a few truck drivers go by thumbs up. |
Yes, you're a sex symbol. Korean women are masturbating everynight thinking of a sweaty , hairy chested shirtless middle aged foriegn man. Did you read too much mills and boon as a confused child ? |
Some guy gets a few looks when going shirtless and you get all upset. Tells me you are a fat dude who would look putrid with his shirt off. Poor sad guy. |

Even in Korea, going shirtless on a beach is perfectly acceptable behavior.

Nice try at a wind up. Nobody is THAT gay that they don't realise how sad and pathetic it would be to insist on running without a shirt in a very conservative country. |
What? How in the hell is Korea conservative? Oh sure, men don't walk around shirtless, but women sure expose themselves; miniskirts so short you can almost see their underwear and starting last year shoulders bare and more cleavage too.
Not enough? How about the red light districts and love motels? How about the fact that prostitution makes up 4% of Korea's GDP?
I'm not going to say you're ignorant Bovine Rebel, but I will say that comment was. |

No , "that" lied to you. I'm not fat and I exercise daily myself. And I'm certainly not upset. I'm amused that this is the second time the same poster has come on here to update us on the number 1 most important issue in the world as he sees it ....the right and joy of running without a shirt on in Korea and I'm having a laugh at his expense.
I can just picture him running down the road with his headphones blaring "eye of the tiger" as his imagination runs wild and transforms his world into a rocky montage. He goes past a women who politely smiles at the creepy shirtless wayguk so as not to attract any unecessary trouble from the smelly oaf ...and thinks to himself..."yeah baby...you want me".... like I said....our hero ! |

I think we need MORE people to go against the norm and do things like the OP did.
I really don't understand all the posts people are making that are tearing into him for running without a shirt. What's the big deal? Personally, I don't care at all about "fitting in" to Korean culture either. Just do whatever you want to do.
You all are acting like the guy is doing something dreadful, I don't get it. Maybe you all come from deep in the bible belt yourselves? Or maybe you've been in Korea too long? To me, a guy running shirtless is nothing.
We need more people to do things like this. That is how societies change, evolve and progress. When people do things that are taboo. Then people realize the taboo is pointless, and only limits personal freedoms.
Geez. The conservatism of this place is one thing that might drive me into doing a runner one day....... |

Well you certainly let it bother you but the Rocky montage analogy was funny, whatever, Im just biored and involving myself in stupid shit but every time I get on this board that seems to be the way. Its like a drug, feel as though I need to get on, I get on and then temporarily lose myself and then I finish and end up berating myself for hours....F'ing Daves, trhe worst thing to happen to me in KOrea. |

Are you serious ?
If I play a youtube video with a shirtless man , the girls in my classes shriek. If there's kissing their cover their eyes. They are 17. Nudity on television is blurred out for F-sakes. Not conservative ?
If Korea is not conservative to you , then I hate to think of what protected little glass bubble you've come from. I like that about Korea....not every society needs a constant display of fake inflated *beep* to get through the day. |

Mid-life crisis! Quick, go buy a Ford Mustang and drive around blasting Pink Floyd like you're still "with it". |

I come from the Bible Belt and you can't buy hookers, wine, whiskey, vodka, etc in my county. We desperately need to import some of Korea's "conservative" values. |

Bet people are more productive in your "country", though. Unless they're spending all their free time at church. |

Well it is a long day at the office around about exam time with no classes (not that I'm complaining). There's only so much youtube a man can watch. |

No, I'm from a dry county and it's one of the poorest in Tennessee. Knoxville is the closest town with hookers and alcohol and it is productive with plenty of commerce. When I was there at the University of Tennessee in the mid-1990s, it was ranked as the #1 party college in America...an oasis in so many ways. |
