I am ready to come to Korea in August. I decided I want to live in Busan. I am flexible about pay, but expect that my 3 years of experience in the US and a masters degree in education should bring me up a bit. The problem I keep having is communicating with the recruiters. Their phones cut out, and the broken english is extremely difficult to understand when this happens. I just want to find a recruiter who can get me a job where I want, and be able to speak to me.

With your credentials you should apply to a university and not even bother working with a recruiter. The only downside is that you're not in Korea right now. |

I'm in a similar situation. I'm in the States finishing my Master's degree in Education. I have a BA in English and 3 years of teaching experience (2 years teaching ESL).
I am not having trouble with recruiters. I have only dealt with English-speaking recruiters, and I haven't really talked to them too much as I'm not leaving until January '09.
I want to apply for universities, but I hear that it's difficult if you are not in Korea and that some universities don't hire teachers unless they have at least 1 year of Korean teaching experience. All of the recruiters I have talked to seem to have work only at hogwans and public schools.
I'd stay on top of the recruiters, especially if you are looking to leave soon. I imagine it to get pretty hectic with all the phone calls and stuff during the 2-3 months before you're ready to leave. |

Its not the best time of year to find University jobs. Most recruiters don't have many well paying non Hagwon jobs. Some R&D jobs pay well. CDI might be one of the few academies to actually give decent pay to someone with an MA. You could try Berlitz or Pagoda as well. Although with the latter even if you get paid well you will have split shifts. |

Yes the most difficult part about dealing with the recruiters is sifting through who is able to help and who isn't. I would much prefer a university job (even if you deal with split shifts), but alas being in the states makes that very hard. I would love to teach science, and was told by someone yesterday they just filled a position that had been vacant for a long time. I believe for the "great" jobs you have to know more about the system and be "in country". I will check out the 2 you mentioned however and see where the chips fall! |

Universities don't normally use recruiters, but if you want a public/hagwon job then I recommend korvia (good english skills, they know what they are doing, and will not call you on weekends or late at night).
I didn't take the job they got for me (found another through a friend), but I found them to be one of the only professional recruiters which contacted me |
