Yeah? How'd you get your citizenship? If it was because you were born overseas and through your parents, how did they get theirs? |
the very screwed up thing about it is that many illegal immigrants come to the US to give birth so their kids can have US citizenship. I totally don't agreee with that, and they should be given the citizenship of their parents, not the country they were born in. |
I seriously doubt that there's a single male illegal immigrant coming to the US to give birth.
So, out of idle curiosity, what other parts of the Constitution do you think should be amended? I noticed that neither you nor mekku's mentioned how you got your citizenship. |
sorry, i am not on this board every day checking out what people write...it does actually take me a few days to check posts and such. i have responded as to nationality....sometimes people need a few days- it doesn't mean i am avoiding the issue.
i am simply saying we need a little more responsibility when it comes to certain topics and in cases where society as a whole cannot be responsible, maybe we need a little government intervention to help us out and make tougher rules for citizenship.....of course this opens up a whole new issue because government needs limitations as well.
my mother's side of the family is native alaskan and my father's side is from northern europe. i'd be fine with being a citizen of either area. in fact, i'd often rather be a european citizen than an american- but that doesn't mean i am going to try to give birth to a child over there in the hopes that their citizenship could help me out. |

Ah, so your American citizenship is from being born in the US. It's quite easy to renounce it. All you have to do is go to an American consular official overseas and sign a form. No doubt, there's something similar for renouncing the other country's citizenship (provided that country permits it).
After all, if you're against citizenship by birth, then you should renounce whatever citizenship(s) you acquired at birth. Maybe you'd be more comfortable with everyone being a stateless alien until they pass some kind of test. |

I love how you're twisting the issue at hand. I didn't say I had a problem with citizenship by being born within the borders. I said I have a problem with someone fence hopping to have the kid here so they have an excuse to have their kid being an American citizen. Again, like I said this is quite frequent. |

I'm twisting nothing.
So, how frequent is it? Anyway, quite some years ago, Immigration law in the US changed so that minors cannot be sponsors. And for adults, they must prove financial ability to support those they sponsor. |

yes, central cali is completely twisting it and taking it to extreme and illogical lengths and sjrm's reply is taking the words right out of my mouth....as i said, i don't have a problem with countries granting citizenship at birth. i have a problem with the vast amounts of people who go through illegal methods to get citizenship for their child... |
