|
|
I've been going through these forums and was wondering if anyone can tell me what the standard wages are that you can expect for a gyopo f4 visa holder without any teaching experience? I was thinking somewhere between 2.0-2.4mil was okay, but then I saw a few strings in here mentioning some were getting around 4.0mil. Is this really possible? Just wondering. Any comments would be helpful. Thanks! |

There are a few SAT prep academies that pay bilingual gyopos 3.0+, but for the most part your salaray expectations are similar to other native speakers unless you arrange extra classes or privates. A few may even try to low-ball you. |

I'd say in the first few months you'll make whatever your contract says. After you get settled in, you will probably pick up a few privates and that'll bump you up a few hundred thousand won a month.
If you get into full gear with day job + night job + privates + weekend jobs then pulling in 3+ million a month is fairly normal.
I wish my school would let me go at 1pm when I finish my last class. That way I could easily get a 2nd full time job and clear 5 mil a month easy. I'll be a walking zombie though. |

Just make sure you don't sign a contract that says you can't work anywhere else. |

Thanks for all your input! At least now I know those wages are standard for most beginners. |

Aye. Like in the US army, don't ask don't tell. |

I don't teach English anymore, but I did for about 3 weeks when I first got here. The offers I got were 2.5 million with housing and 3.6 million without housing. And if my memory serves me right, another hagwon offered me 2.3 million with housing.
I just reupped with my current employer for another year - negotiated 5 more vacation days after I complained that I had to use my vacation days when I was out sick...plus, my Korean co-workers get 15 days vacation including their 5 days off in the summer and I only had 10 in my original contract - I now have 15 days, too. Also got a significant pay raise. I've been in Korea less than a year and come September, I will be making close to six figures - hell, might as well say I'm making six figures since it's only a difference of a few thousand dollars. Life is good, man. Can't complain.
Lotsa opportunities (both in and outside the teaching world) for smart gyopos in this country. Good luck to you. |

six figures, eh?
So that means you would make a maximum of 999,999 Korean won. I hope that's not your yearly salary.
