With all the hating, why not start a post about our love of Korea?
I like not understanding when half the people in the street try to talk to me. |

Erm... The weather? Quite nice today. Oh, and I have the next two months off work but still get paid. Wouldn't get that in London... |

In civilized society, a person who prattles on and on to a known foreigner that they know does not your language is classified as mentally retarded. |

I dog came up and wanted to smell me, it didn't bark at me so I let it. Then the ladies that had the dog wanted to talk with me. They called me Ajjoshi despite the fact I'm only 25... I didn't want to talk with them that much after that. At least their dog was better trained than most.
That was something I liked about a day in Korea. |

Don't know what that last post meant, but I too like it here.
As a matter of fact, the weirder it gets (and it always gets weirder) the more i like it.
And yes, it is retarded. I didn't come here for the logic. Or food. Or safety. Or language.
On an unrelated note, how come most of the old posters are gone?
Hmmm............... |

Most of the newer posters on Dave's are Phillistines at best who would not know Hegel from a bagel nor Lord Kingsley Amis from Tory Amis. This may have something to do with the less frequent postings from the older members of Dave's. |

Ajosshi is an acceptable way of addressing a 25 year old dude...why did it piss you off? |

Refreshing to see a post that isn't complaining about Korea. I've not been there yet but it's good to here that people like it even with all the quirks. |

Arrr, you're just getting old and crusty. People were dumb as hell before too.
Come back and school us, gramps! If you can get a day-pass from your retirement facility that is.
(I'm just kidding. Do, yes, do please come back, ancient ones. Alyssa especially, that grrrl is HAWT with a capital HA.) |

I don't like Korea too much so far. Why? It is just way too conservative for me. I feel like people are too repressed, too uptight and there is a lot of unnatural stuff going on around here. I believe in looking at people as individuals. But here, most people really, really, conform to a group identity to an extreme. They seem to see themselves as "Koreans", and as "Koreans" they put themselves in a box of behavior and thinking. Most people in Korea seem to make a big effort to be the same. Very, very different than what i'm used to.
I find it very hard to befriend Koreans and when I go out, I almost never get any love from the locals. They just see me as a "foreigner" and they can't seem to get over it. They either look at me with resentment, or they look at me like I am some freak novelty. But I am obviously unapproachable in thier eyes. I can go bar-hopping, go to a coffee shop, or walk around the neighborhood here, and it's a very safe assumption that nothing cool will happen. So i've taken to staying home lately. The people here see me as a wierd ape, alien walking among them. I get it.
Getting laid around here. Not likely. I'm not down with hookers, so where's the lotion at?
I have met a few Koreans who have been genuinely cool, nice and real to me. But unfortunely they are very, very few and far between. Arghhhhhh!
That being said. Being an English teacher here is sweet. Free rent, easy job, great pay, you get to be a slacker at work.... nice. The job situation here is great, it is what brings us in.
When I get my first paycheck soon, I will be able to start living the high life here. In the meantime. I am just another miserable Dave's person. Drinking 40s and writing wierd posts at 3 a.m. In Korea, if you have no money, it blows......
Oh yeah sorry, this thread is about what we love in Korea.
Money, free apartment, easy job, uhhhh..... i'm glad i've got booze and the internet.
I can hear someone puking in the street outside..... |

First of all, Mattrixiaholic, some of us sign off and on. And sometimes that is like, say, 3 years later when we forgot our original password and bullshit email we used so we didn't get spammed.
Second, I was defending you fucker! Why you gotta hate?
Third of all, On the other side, did you think this was the place for individuals? I'd throw down some of that "newness" Matrixiaholic was talking about if I could see your join date in the topic review. Wait till your first paycheck then you may get laid!!
(edit: not a flame. drunk and GF is asleep. wait your time sir.)
(re edit: I had something hilarious I just typed but had to erase it because I promised something about drunk posts a while back)
Finally, I'm glad I came her with my future fiance. Pickings are slim if you don't want a K-dog. Not that they're dogs. Didn't mean to imply that.
Shite. Wish my sarcasm and wittism came off like I speak.
WTF? 3am? |
