I am a tourist in korea living with my fiancee. We'll be taking a trip to Thailand for a vacation but my visa is up 3 days before. We will be returning back to Korea in a few weeks. Will I have any trouble with Immigration for having my visa expire 3 days prior? What should I do and is there any contact information available?
Thanks,
Jim |

According to Lonely Planet:

As a general rule, tourist visas cannot be extended. About the only exceptions are for emergencies, such as accidents or illness, cancelled flights, or loss of a passport. You are supposed to apply for this extension at the local immigration office at least one day before the visa expires. Overstaying your visa can result in a stiff fine. |
If I were you, I would rebook my flight and get out of here before the visa expires. I guess you could fake an "emergency", but that would have to be well documented, and even so, there are no guarantees. It sounds like your only other option would be to get ready to pay a fine. |

i've asked immigration and they said no, no, no and i asked my friend to ask them in korean and they told her not unless i was dying. so... i think if you are honest, they will not be sympathetic. better to rebook your ticket and just hang out in thailand an extra 3 days (waiting for your fiance if s/he can't go 3 days early, too). |
