can anyone give me some info on living in ilsan please?
is it a nice place to live, does it have good nightlife, are there many foriegners there?

Ilsan is a very beautiful city. It has many foreigners. It doesn't have as many foreigners as Seoul, of course, but you will definitely easily spot foreigners here and there. Many foreigners like the city and try to find jobs here. There is a Costco near Baeksoek Station. There is also the very nice Westerndom area which is full of stores, restaurants, there are a few foreign restaurants there and a Smoothie King, and some nice cafes. There is also the Lafesta area which is also good for shopping, eating barbecue food, and going to cafes. There are, of course, plenty of bars like the "Frog and Toad" where many foreign blokes hang out and where you can get decent beer. |

It's a great city. Clean. New. Not too far from Seoul. Clean(ish) air. Plentiful foreigners. Western Dom. La Festa. Meat Street. Lake Park. Decent bar scene. Costco. Everything you need, nothing you don't.

Can you tell us more about the nightlife here, where the hot spots are. I saw bar looking place calls M2 at the Lafesta, is that a club?

| M2 is a dance club. Ilsan is the best place to live in the Seoul area if you ask me. Nitelife here is sweet but you do have to mix it up and head into Seoul too. Not too many clubs but plenty of bars both western style and korean (hofs etc.) |

I live in Seoul for the loot, but if money wasn't a concern (and I actually continued to live in Korea  ), I would go back to Ilsan. It's a good place to live, IMO. |

For the club scene, you would have to go to Hongdae or some other part of Seoul. Ilsan has a lot of bars. The Bar boom (spelling) which is kind of a night club. I've been there once before. It was cool enough.
I haven't been there in ages... Ilsan is good for hanging out and having some beer, but Seoul is where many people head out during the weekend. I like the bar scene over here. |

so to get to seoul for a night out would you just get a taxi from ilsan?? how far is it?
is there much of an alternitive scene in ilsan, would i find much live music there or anything like that?

i'm pretty sure there's a train that links up to the Seoul subway, though don't quote me on that.
i've enjoyed my several visits to Ilsan...it feels very suburban, a nice change from Seoul. |

There is, but I wouldn't plan on taking it. I imagine it'd take forever. It took about an hour to get out there by car from northern Seoul during heavy traffic, so I can't imagine what it'd be on the subway.
Ilsan is a really nice city. It's a grid, Western style, and not random like most Korean cities. There also isn't a building there more than ten years old. The entire city has a new, clean feel to it. The park is nice and the downtown area is very modern with many amendities / sightseeing. |

the subway takes about an hour into Seoul- the bus is pretty quick - 30 mins to Hongdae and about 40 to Seoul station.
A taxi back from Hongdae at night takes about 20 mins usually - not far at all. |

A taxi cub to Itaewon from Ilsan would cost you about 27,000 won. It's not so cheap to go there. One drag about living in Ilsan is that the subways in Seoul shut down way too early. It has happened to me where I got stranded after the subway would stop at Gupabal Station. |
