Anyone have any info about hand done tattoo's? Either in Korea or surrounding countries? Any idea of locations, cost and unusual details would be good. Thanks.

Do you mean tattoos done with normal tattoo guns but not copying a trace line on the body, or you mean traditional tattoos with the sharp sticks etc and tapping it on the skin?

both of these are done in Japan, not sure about Korea though.

Just the other day a guy was showing me a tattoo he got in Thailand using that technique. It looked great, it looked just like a top notch one from a good shop. The color was amazingly deep and dark.

You're talking about the tapping stick right?

He was telling me that lots of Thai people do tattoos like that. He said it's still big in southeast Asia and easy to find there. That's all I know.....

I got my last tattoo with a new type of machine that works using air. Instead of electricity and machinery like a normal tattoo gun, the needle is moved by air, like a tire inflater, it sounded just like the bike tire inflaters you would use at a gas station too. It come out great.

Thanks for the heads up, definitly helpful. I was refuring to one with sticks or needs tapped by hand. I have heard about some in Japan or thailand but thought I would see if anyone had info about it for Korea. I already have a few good connections for modern tat gun tattoos around Seoul. But just trying to plan ahead. If anyone hears anything lemme know. thanks all.

OTOSIDE,
What is the advantage of air-powered over regular gun? Is it faster=less painful?

haha... ya I'd never do the left handed tattooing.

I am seriously thinking about buying my own tattoo gun though. Practice on fruit. Then move up to doing my legs with no ink. Then breaking out the ink.

Doing it with no ink is good, but hurts more. As long as the needle is clean the tattoo will heal and there wont be anything left behind. Perfect for learning.

The tattoo artist said that it makes the needle bounce faster. So for the tattoo artist, it is smoother to use and takes less time to lay on the same amount of color.

The tattoo looks great too. The lines are so smooth, it looks like it was painted on with a brush.

To be honest, I don't know much about those air tattoo guns. I didn't even know he was gonna use that type of machine until I was shaved and ready to go.

In fact, I am wondering now if maybe it was just a homemade machine he created himself in his garage? I don't know.

At one point I remember thinking that it was like he was drawing with a color pencil, how fast the color was coming out. When he did the black lines he would move his hand really fast and the soild line would be there. And when he layed out the color it went really fast like he was using a thick marker to do it. Just very smooth.[/list]
