Does anyone have any experience with either of these branches of GDA? The pay sounds fine, but fom the e-mail I got, it sounds like classes are held from 9 am until 9pm. I definitely don't want split shifts and I want overtime to be my choice, not a requirement. I am also curious about how they treat the staff.
Also, I posted my resume a few days ago and so far I am mainly getting responses from recruiters. I specifically put that I want to teach in Busan or another city in Gyeonsangnam province and I am getting offers for Seoul. Just makes me wonder if anyone is actually reading my resume before sending out a response.
Any tips to make my resume look better? Should I include a picture at this point (if that is possible)? |

Hi, I worked at GDA Seocho for 5 years and would be happy to answer any questions you have if you want to PM me. I will tell you that their ad makes it looks as if you would be teaching 9-9. Their classes run 9-9 but you either teach 9-5 ish, or 1-9 unless you have overtime.
GDA is not a bad place, but it is not one of those easy just press play and babysit kind of places. I enjoyed working there, although there were some annoying things. However, they are honest about pay and hours. You never have to worry about getting ripped off financially. Everything is up front in the contract.
Let me know if you have other specific questions. |

Hey there! I worked at the GDA Bundang location for one year. PM me for all your answers to your questions, and we can discuss.
I WILL say that I agree w/the other worker who posted here; you can count on Pension, and ontime monthly paychecks every time. It's a decent school, but you need to work hard, put in your time, and get out of it what you put into it. |

I interviewed for a job at the Bundang branch. I was quite impressed with the asian gentleman, John, who interviewed me. They have a pool, a gym, a little kitchen for the kids. I was ready to take the job but:
The hours were long. 9 to 5 or longer somedays I believe with, effectively, no breaks. You eat lunch with the kids.
The pay was too low.
The school was recommended to me so I applied not knowing the salary. I guess I asked for too much because I didn't get the job.
The worst part was that John didn't have the courtesy to call me and tell me that the school wasn't going to raise the salary (we had agreed to speak again and he said he would ask the boss if more money could be given). I even sent him an email and he didn't respond to that either. I think this sort of behaviour speaks volumes and now I am VERY glad I didn't get/take the job. It makes me think he's a two-faced business man. Don't make me think I have a shot at getting the job and then not call (as you said you would) or return an email. That's just lame.
I just signed a contract with a new school for my second year. I'll be making more money and working even less hours than I do now. |

^ I'm happy for you that you found a better gig. John can be a hard character.
I worked at GDA Seocho for a year. Pay was on time, hours were okay (2-9)(12-7). The management was pretty screwed up, as there was a foreign supervisor for awhile then he quit, and then there wasn't one for a long time. Pay was on time, and the Korean staff were quite good.
You have to do report cards, and there was cameras in the classrooms.
I waited a long time to get my deposit back that they took off the first three months.
If you have any other questions, feel free to pm me. |
