Really digging my new Judd and was wondering how far it would be sanely possible to travel on it. I know it's not allowed on the freeways so I'd have to take the intercity roads, but summer's here and so is my vacation time! I assume Chollanamdo is probably out of the question?
How far have you gone your scooter? |

As far as you want. Just stop every hour or so to give the scooter and yourself a rest. I did this regularly in Thailand on my 100CC. |

Everything except expressways are fair game. I've circumnavigated the peninsula on a 250cc Mirage. 125cc scooter wouldn't be a comfortable or fast, but doable and legal. |

all over korea. like another poster said, these little air cooled machines need time to cool, so stop often. I would also suggest driving at about 80km/h. running em at 100 is mean to the engine |

Yup, go go go!
But, if you're going far from your homebase, be prepared.
Some basic tools and basic gear for sure.
I find that on the secondary highways--80-90 km/h is just fine.
I've had a blast getting on some country roads surrounded only by rice paddies. |

Watch out in rural areas for the white spray disinfectant for avian bird flu. Some are automatic, some are not. Some attendants turn off the spray for bike, some do not. If in doubt, drive around it. I don't think it can harm you, but it's a bitch to be sprayed. |

First of all, don't take my advice. I followed an atlas, took diversions, got lost a time or 2 and finally made my last day a 10 hour ride.
Second of all, but a good Korean road atlas. Go to Kyobo bookstore or other equivalent. Find the one with a picture of a big cloverleaf interchange on it. It's got major destinations in English and Korean.
Third, find your own route. Especially on the South Sea. You can do it in a day or in a week depending on the routes, islands and ferries you take. On the East Sea, use Hwy 7, obviously, and find the most convenient route to/from Seoul you want. There are a few.
Fourth, do more than try to circumnavigate Korea if you can. Lots of treasures lay on the small roads, islands and stops along the way. |

I've ridden a 150cc scooter (old Lambretta) well over 150 miles in a day. I'd imagine that modern 4 stroke twist and go bikes can handle even more than that. |
