|
|
I received my new contract yesterday, fully 3 months early. 3 months early makes me suspicious cause last year I had to press and press to get it done. Any ideas why it might be done so early?
First clause which was discussed in another thread totally sucks butt.
Article 8 - 4 Employer may require employee to work overtime in addition to normal work days and work hours. In this case, overtime pay will be provided (6000won/hour).
The end of the previous thread was that they couldn't require someone to work on saturday. That's Article 8 - 1. However, 8 - 4 specifically says, "in addition to normal work days and hours.", the important word being days. Since in EPIK our normal work days are monday through friday except weekends and holidays, it sounds like they're trying to get around that with this clause.
Just see what happens if someone tells me to teach a class at 7pm on Saturday evening, which technically is what they are suggesting is possible in this clause even though it contradicts Article 8 - 1.
The second clause I see is in...
Article 11 (Airfare) section 2. If employee works fully until the end of the term of employment and returns to his/her home country (or another sic lesser destination) within 10 days from the expired date of employment, employer shall pay for .....
So it appears that no longer is airfare owed on completion of contract. Now it appears that it will only be paid if I leave within ten days. And just for shits and giggles, define "fully".
Korea spar...umm, whatever. |

Is that a typo, or does it really state that you'll be making 6000 won for overtime??.... |

Thats NOT a typo. Although strangely, if I teach more than 22 hours a week DURING normal work hours, I get 20,000 per 45 minute class. Go figure.
They will have to fire me if they ever ask me to work for 6000/hour. Not going to happen. |

I understood that the 6,000/hour was for non teaching hours. |

Where's the other ot clause? That 6000 is for travel time and what not probably. No one would actually teach for that amount. I sure wouldn't. |

Maybe a new contract is coming out which might be better. Or maybe you are such a good teacher that they want to make a pre-emptive bid...

I'd say that the contract says I don't have to work on Saturdays or Sundays or national holidays.

How are they going to pay you airfare if you leave? Just tell them you are leaving, and get a refundable ticket

If I were told I have to teach for 6000 won a hour, I'd just photocopy worksheets and hand them out. |

That 6000 won an hour is in all the new contracts. It's in mine. No one knows why. No one has been asked to have anything to do with it either, but there's always a first time. |

"Where's the other ot clause? That 6000 is for travel time and what not probably. No one would actually teach for that amount. I sure wouldn't."
I would hope that no one ever would. But I also wonder if it covers all other non-teaching events.
The 20,000 per class only covers classes taught in excess of 22 hours per week, AND during normal class time. That's approximately 8:30-5:00 Mon-Fri. The clause says 6000 per hour for any work (I will define work as teaching or attending board of education or school events.) outside of normal school hours. That to me means evenings and weekends. No way is that going to happen.
"Or maybe you are such a good teacher that they want to make a pre-emptive bid... " I just somehow can't see that.
"I'd say that the contract says I don't have to work on Saturdays or Sundays or national holidays." Yup.
Man, I tell ya, Koreans have that supervillian ability to take any good thing and make it shit. Korea astonishing. |
