SEOUL -- General Motors announced a recall Friday of all Pontiacs sold in Korea, because of a faulty glove compartment lock. GM said the lock might pop open during driving, causing a distraction on the passenger side of the front seat.

The American automobile manufacturer said it would replace the glove compartment lock without charge to the car owners. GM said it had sold two Pontiacs in Korea, in addition to 31 other GM cars and vans.

Officials in Seoul responded by imposing an immediate ban on all imports of American vehicles until the U.S. government could guarantee that every American car sold in Korea was absolutely 100 percent free of all defects. Officials said they would not tolerate the importation of dangerous American vehicles that could threaten the life and safety of Koreans, especially children.

To show support for the import ban, children from across Korea held nighttime candlelight marches, complete with sound trucks and professionally printed anti-American sighs, all organized and run exclusively by children under the age of 10. The children marched up and down their towns at night chanting slogans accusing American car manufacturers of conspiring to kill innocent Koreans.

One of those children, when asked if he had ever seen a Pontiac or knew what one was, said that they have long hair and wear black hats and long black coats.

Lol.....that was funny. Actually there was a recall on some foreign car maker last week and it applied to about a whole 40 vehicles!

He says Korea exported 700,000 cars to the U.S. last year, while only importing 5,000 cars from the U.S.

I wonder what the numbers are for Canada?

Is it true that Korean cars sell for less in the U.S. than they do in Korea? Anyone?

Is there a reason why the U.S. puts up with this?

Wow, America really is not selling cars these days. 2 Pontiac's in Korea. That's pitiful.

I could eat that avatar there showing perfect beef loin about right now. Yummy. Is that Australian grass fed lean beef like sold in Korea?

"Beef, it's what's for dinner" is the slogan of the American beef producers, sojourner1, as far as I know, and not for use by Australian beef producers.

Auto makers in America are quite the lobbyists. This has been a point of contention with the FTA deal. Obama isn't specifically referring to this when he calls for renegotiation, but it is a large part.

Hyundai in America is very affordable, and is becoming more and more trendy. Economical too. If anything breaks, it's like 50 bucks to repair. Plus, it is almosty standard to have a 10 yr/100,000 mile warranty.

Though I would choose a Trans Am that gets 10 mpg any day of the week. There's just something about American muscle...
