|
|
Draw was held yesterday. South Korea is grouped with Saudia Arabia, Iran, UAE and North Korea. The first two in each group qualify and there is a good chance that it will be Saudi and Iran. If SK finish third they would head to a playoff against the third place team from the other group.
They they would have a playoff against the Oceanic qualifier (probably New Zeland).
I think SK will qualify but it could be a tough road and it isn't a sure thing.
Nice to see them in with North Korea again. Hopefully someone will score in the two matches this time around. |

I wouldn't bet on it. Iraq are current Asian champions and Saudi is a perennial Asian qualifier. With Korea's current state of diabolical finishing, shoddy defending, woeful tactics and questionable team selection, I can envision a 2010 World Cup being watched from the sofa on behalf of the Korean team and their supporters.
* edit sorry I misspoke ... Iraq aren't in the group ... aren't they actually being sanctioned by FIFA? Anyway, Iran are also Asian qualifiying heavy-hitters. I still reckon Korea's chance of qualifying is slim. |

If South Korea doesn't qualify I can only imagine the reaction here. |

It's a win-win. We will be spared one of Saudi, ROK or Iran. Yeh.
Ideally I'd like to see N Korea and Iran in and Saudi ROK out.
Don't need the cannon fodder that are SA.
And Bahrain are no pushovers---could be a shock in the 2nd group. |

Were you here before the last World Cup? The soccer nationalism was much much higher. After their failure to get past the first round in Germany it has been tempered.
Although some believe that they really did beat Switzerland in the last game but the ref was against them. |

I can envision a 2010 World Cup being watched by next to no one and getting very little coverage. |
