Korean drowns while trying to save his wife
KATA: A Korean man drowned off Kata Beach about 11 am yesterday after being dragged out to sea while trying to save his wife, who had swum into difficulty.
Hun Sang Suk, 46, had swum out to rescue his wife, who had been dragged away from the shore by strong currents, said Lt Ratthaket Mingmuang of Chalong Police Station.
The red flags were up at the beach, but they still went swimming. I saw that there were strong waves that looked dangerous there, he said.
Mr Huns two teenage daughters then swam out to aid their father, but he was pulled out even further to sea, where he drowned, Lt Ratthaket said.
The two girls and their mother made it safely back to shore, he added.
Mr Huns body was recovered about midday, and was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital.
Mrs Hun and her daughters were taken to Patong Hospital before being transfered to Bangkok Hospital Phuket to be treated for shock and ingestion of seawater, Lt Ratthaket said.
The family had being staying at the Peach Hill hotel in Kata and were due to fly home tomorrow, he added.

Would he have gone swimming if the flags were out in Korea? |

From what I understand of beaches in Korea they are heavily controlled by the beach Nazis making sure people are safe. Stopping them swimming and controlling where they swim. |

I worked at Yellowstone almost ten years ago. I remember seeing one of the most ridiculous things ever. A Korean man sees a buffallo and puts his three year old son in front of the beast. He then runs back about 20 feet with a camera and proceeds to photograph his son in front of the thing by only two or three feet. |

I love how some of you take opportunities like this to make fun of Korean people. Posts like these are neither funny nor thought provoking and are in poor taste. While both he and his wife should have heeded the flags, they didn't. And as a result, a life was lost.
What country are you from? Let's find stories about the dumb things that your countrymen do and then proceed to make fun of them...so that we can all feel superior to you and your like. |

This would be good if we were in the "OP's home country" Forum, but we're not. This is a Korean forum dedicated to things Korean.
Why don't you try to counteract his negativity (not that she was being negative) by posting something positive about Koreans. Why should it always have to be a tit for tat kind of thing? |

I agree! A husband went out to save his wife and then the result was his two daughters and wife watching him drown! this is a terrible thing!
not really something to talk about and say! "oh yeah well koreans are stupid" two girls lost their father and a wife lost her husband!
think about that! |

Freakstar is right. Using an accidental death to make fun of Koreans is just crass, although typical of a certain portion of the posters here. |

May he rest in peace.
And may his family find some comfort in their loss by knowing that he went to his wife's assistance. |

At least Aussies know how to swim....
so they are not doing stupid chit - they have been swimming since they were infants......
Not like the Koreans who don't know how to swim - fear water - and go swimming with t-shirts, trouser, slippers on etc etc (only making them heavier) - so they can't float.... |

Well, at least one Aussie didn't. You lost a prime minister in the water a couple of decades back.
If people are going to find humor in someone's death, I think that one offers a lot more opportunity than a man dying while trying to save his wife. |

thing is, I can't help but wonder if maybe he was trying to drown his wife but she got away - things being what they are and all, she didn't want to say that to anyone since he died.
it happens, a lot more than some of you might imagine.
as for stupid things Americans do - a teenager was decapitated by a roller coaster after going past no-entry barriers - allegedly to fetch his hat - it was on Yahoo news this morning.
yeah, that was stupid.
now his parents are grieving over losing their son. |

When I was flying home a couple of weeks ago there was this article (I can't find the newspaper one, so this'll do) about a man who is currently facing charges of killing his wife on a scuba diving tour.

Apparently it was the photo that has led the conviction.

Aussies do do stupid shit but I am just talking about the beach and those that drown there, 9 times out of ten its an asian person and they are usually trying to save their family member. Got to have respect for the beaches and local knowledge goes a long way just like local knowledge can save you on the streets here as in motorists not obeying pedestrian crossings. Its not a rag on Koreans, I have enough ammo for that. |
