It depends on where you are from (i.e. your last permanent Canadian address). In the bigger cities, you have to talk to your local police department. There's probably an Information Check Unit. They'll send you a form, you fill out the form and then you need to get two pieces of government issued ID (Passport, drivers license, etc.) notarized and sent with the form. Don't ask the police station here to do the notarization - they can but probably won't. Go to a notary and they'll do it for about 25,000 won per ID (50,000 total). Simpler but more expensive.
Send in all the paperwork, wait a few weeks and they'll send the completed check back. Don't open it - if you open it, it's void. It works easier if you have friends or family that can pick up the record check and send it back to you as they'll make no special arrangements for returning it any quicker than ground post. If you're doing the friends/family route, include written instructions with the name and address of the person that you want to get it for you.
If you're from a smaller town, you'll have to go through the RCMP to get it done. I'm not sure if the process is the same or not. Check the internet and you should be able to find the phone number, police or RCMP, of who you need.
Hope it helps! |

I'll get on this matter today so we'll see just how long it takes. |

I recently did the CRC from Korea. I tried 2 different methods.
First, I had my mom go into the local police station and request my CRC with 2 photo-copied forms of ID. They weren't notarized and they had no problems accepting it. This method took awhile, though. Maybe over 3 weeks, and they insisted on mailing it back to my mom, even though she lives down the street.
Secondly, I requested one through the Winnipeg Police.
http://www.winnipeg.ca/police/BPR/info_request.stm#crim_record_search
I sent them 2 photo-copied forms of ID (again not notarized) and filled out the form. They received it and processed it that same day. They mailed it to my mom, who sent it to be via Purolator. Me mailing the forms from Korea to Winnipeg, then having them process it, then mailing it to my mom, and then my mom mailing it to me in Korea was faster than the local police agency.
I highly suggest that method. Also, to get the Vulnerable Sector Search you just need to check a box requesting it.
Hope that helps! |

My city PD wanted me to fax them two pieces of Canadian ID, signed by a local cop. I went to the local station and got a detective to do it. Then I faxed that, and the request form, to my PD, and got the record check mailed to me here. It took less than two weeks.
If you have to go through the federal RCMP it's much more difficult. They need fingerprints, and take about six months I believe. Your local office will almost certainly be a better bet. |
