Man, he was probably the fastest guitarist out there in the '70s. I have a few of his CDs, and you can really hear the influence that he had on later guys like Yngwie, Zack Wylde, etc. It's funny, if you listen to some of Al's stuff, some of it sounds like cheesy '70s porn music.
The last guitarist who made my jaw drop was Djhango Reinhart. I've heard of that guy for a long time. I finally got around to checking out his stuff. Fast guitar playing; plus, he was only using two fingers! |

After Van Halen went mainstream commercial he basically sounded the same on any riff. Lets face it Eddie quit being a guitar hero and went into song writing because it was the way for him and the group of his name to achieve success. Innovation was never Eddie's strong suit. His contribution to the world of guitarists was two handed tapping. His contribution to music are his group's albums and whatever influence they had on the genre.
I never really liked Van Halen (although he's way more of a guitarist than I would have ever been) because after "Eruption" there was really nothing new. |
