Hey all. I've been cheking online, but my situation wasn't addressed. I know for Filipinos to visit Canada, they need an invitation letter from a Canadian lilving there.
But, my family lives here with me in Korea. Does anybody know what the specific requirements are to take them to Canada?

Yes, I have tried calling the embassy in Seoul. About 60 times now.

Anyone? Thanks.

Easy to do.

1) fill in a visa application for her (and any kids who don't have a Canadian passport).
2) write a letter inviting her (you are a citizen and entitled to invite her).
3) Give a brief itinerary.
4) Show proof that you intend a temporary visit:
a) valid F3 visa for her with re-entry permit to Korea
b) contract for you showing a significant time remaining and valid re-entry permit (if you are ending in March you won't get a TRV for a December visit).
c) they will want to know why you are applying for a TRV when she is entitled to a family class immigration visa.
5) show proof of relationship (copy of the marriage certificate)
6) Submit a copy of a recent bank statement or copy of your bank book
(financially able to undertake the trip and return).
should take about a week.
7) courier return slip (available at their counter - visa section)

Do it early, if they want additional documents they will just send everything back to you with a request for more info and you will have to take it back and drop it all in the box again.

Do NOT expect any kind of service or assistance from the visa section of the Canadian Embassy. You won't get any. The staff in the visa section are about as useful as teats on a boar, about as helpful as a water bailing bucket on the Titanic and they must be just about the rudest staff in Korea.

Thank you ttompatz. I wasn't sure if I was the one able to write the invitation letter as I do not live (and haven't for almost 20 years) in Canada.

I've heard horror stories about the Can Emb, but the only time I was there, I actually had a pretty good experience. Here's hoping I get a repeat performance!

Thanks again.

Ok, so the place I ended up wasn't the place I went to before to do my passport. That's ok though, I got it all done.
My initial reaction to the lady working the info booth on the first day was really negative, but that changed. We had arrived at 11:15, just after they stopped issuing numbers. The security guard, a helpful young fellow, told me I should go and talk to the lady when I said I needed application forms. I went to the window, waited until the person in front of was finished, and stepped up.....and was promptly shut down. No if's, ands, or buts. She said, I will talk to you after I finish with these people. They have a number, you don't. Feck! I thought to myself, what a bitch! But she dealt with the last half dozen people in rapid order and then looked after me. What I realized after is that she had simply maintained control. She didn't let me, or any other person, cut in line. I hate it when that happens. So in retropsect, I will take her abruptness as a good trade for keeping the service moving according to who was there first.
Now I had to go back the next morning. The was another security guard there along with the young fellow from the day before. He was more than a little in-my-face. "You're in the wrong place." "No, I'm not", says I, "I'm in the correct place." "What do you want"", and moves to stand in front of me. "I think it's better if you change your tone of voice with me." At this point the young guy from the day before said something to him and he moved aside. WTF?
The lady at the desk was also helpful, though when I asked about something on the application form, she was foolish enough to say, "You should use your common sense." I stopped, looked at her, and then wrote down the http address for the customer service comment website that's posted on the glass in the bottom left corner. She was much more helpful after that, and I didn't have to say a word.
I did get a kick out of her jacking some old ajjuma who laid a shoulder into some young white guys hip so she could wave her receipt and ask her question. Oh, the humanity of it all! Where's the respect? lol.

All in all, not a bad experience. Everybody seemed to be treated equally, and except for the older security guy, the service was efficient.
I've had much worse.
